Scorton Medical Centre are looking for a part-time dispenser to join our team. This is a new post and will be for 15 - 20 hours per week. The post holder will work within the Dispensary covering all duties required of a busy rural dispensing surgery. We are looking for a proactive and reliable Dispenser who will become part of a very friendly and efficient team. We are a rural practice of approximately 3600 patients in a beautiful purpose built surgery with its own dispensary. The post holder must be reliable, a great team player, have excellent communication skills with a good sense of humour and be committed to maintaining our high standards. You will be part of a supportive and dedicated team, contributing to the health and wellbeing of our local community.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be a fully qualified dispenser and will assist in dispensing medications, provide excellent customer service and support dispensary operations. Commitment to patient care and safety is paramount. Prior experience in a GP practice is not essential as full training will be given to the right person.
About us
Based in a purpose built Medical Centre in a beautiful area we are lucky to be supported by 3 GP Partners. We have a salaried GP, a nursing team of 2 nurses and a HCA, reception, secretarial and Management team along with our current dispensers. We also have a number of additional staff who work out of our Medical Centre which include the PCN Care Home Team, Pharmacists and a First Contact Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. We all work together as a team

As part of our team you will be responsible for:
Principal Duties and areas of Responsibility
- To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and wherever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, about the item, about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the aurthorising doctor or duty doctor
- To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
- To ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the Practice are appropriately stored and a record kept of all financial transactions
- To endorse all prescription forms as appropriate
- To promptly forward all invoices and correspondence to the Practice Manager where appropriate according to the practice policy
- To notify the authorising Doctor/Dispensary Lead of any FP10 returns/feedback from the PPA so that any remedial action may be taken in a timely manner
- To operate an efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the Practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.
- Carry out/ assist with dispensary audits and DRUM forms as and when required
- To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions
- To ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order
- To take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins/ CAS alerts that may be received
- To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook
- To maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions incorporating the use of SystmOne when appropriate
- To undertake any necessary work that may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing/reception service
- To monitor and action tasks associated with online requests
- Attend and participate in practice meetings
- Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post
