Job summary
We are looking for a hardworking and enthusiastic qualified (Minimum NVQ level 2 in Dispensing) Dispenser/Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Scorton Medical Centre. We require someone who is able to work accurately under pressure both independently and within a team. Experience of SystmOne would be an advantage but you must have good IT/keyboard skills. Excellent customer service and attention to detail are essential. You must have the ability to cover for staff holidays and illness at short notice.
We are looking for a well-motivated person who is able to work well within a small team in our busy rural practice.
Experience of working in a Dispensing Practice would be advantageous but not essential
Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience
This is a part-time vacancy of approximately 20-25 hours per week which would be discussed at interview
We currently have just over 3500 patients, 98% of which are dispensing - so generally quite busy
We are in a purpose built Medical Centre in a lovely location
You would qualify to join/remain in the NHS Pension Scheme
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work within the Dispensary covering all duties required of a busy rural dispensing surgery
To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, about the item, about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor
Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient
Ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the Practice are appropriately stored and a record kept of all financial transactions
Endorse prescriptions as appropriate
Promptly forward all invoices and correspondence to the Practice Manager where appropriate according to the practice policy

Operate an efficient stock control system
Carry out/ assist with dispensary audits
Ensure drugs are stored in an appropriate manner
General dispensary cleanliness
Maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions
Undertake any necessary work that may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service

To ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order
To take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins/ CAS alerts that may be received
To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook
To maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions incorporating the use of SystmOne when appropriate
To undertake any necessary work that may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service
To monitor and action tasks associated with online requests
Attend and participate in practice meetings
When required - General Medical Reception duties including meeting and greeting patients and visitors, booking patients into relevant clinics, dealing with patient/visitor queries both over the telephone and in
Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post

- A commitment to maintain a high professional standard and keep up to date with all aspects of dispensing relevant to the post
