Job summary

Wetmore Road Surgery are looking to recruit a part-time Medical Receptionist to come and join our Practice Team at our busy town centre GP Surgery.

Previous experience of working in General Practice would be an advantage but this is not essential as training would be provided.

We pride ourselves on meeting the challenges faced by primary care as a team. If you are highly motivated (with a good sense of humour) and flexible in your approach, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, effective and confidential way
  • Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice

About us

We are looking at expanding our Reception Team and need a motivated and flexible receptionist to join us on a part-time basis to cover our surgery opening times between 8.00am and 6.30pm. Shift pattern to be agreed.

We are a very forward thinking and innovative practice who utilises to the full, the skills and experience of our team members. The ethos of the practice is to deliver high quality service and to encourage teaching.

We are supportive of professional development and pride ourselves in providing peer support for these new roles whilst working in a caring, supportive and friendly environment.

We are a growing surgery of 11 doctors, who are supported by an experienced team of ANPs, Nurses and Pharmacy Team together with a large admin team to look after our 12400 patients.

GP Surgery Receptionist

Brief description

  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, effective and confidential way
  • Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments
  • Using your own judgement and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, including patients from abroad and ensure procedures are completed
  • Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt delivery
  • Enter requests for home visits, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and prepare paper records for home visits
  • Action prescription requests in line with paractice policy accurately and timely e.g. ready for collection within 48 hours
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non General Medical) services, accept payment and issue receipts
  • Enter patient information onto the computer as required
  • Assist with the maintenance of accurate, up-to-date and relevant patient notes and medical records
  • Open and secure premises at the start and end of the working day, de-activate alarm and make necessary preparations to receive patients
  • Support the development and apply practice policies, standards and guidelines
  • Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners or the Practice Management Team
