Job summary

We are here because we enjoy providing continuity of care, developing meaningful relationships with our patients and have a good working relationship with our staff and colleagues. We have weekly supervision sessions to discuss any clinical problems and we enjoy coming to work. Our clinical workload is shared equally amongst Partners and salaried doctors. We have a high retention of our registrars becoming salaried or partner GPs, and have an informal mentorship to support recent graduates.
If you join us, you are welcome to become involved in training nurses, medical students and registrars, take part in our QIP projects or get involved with our Primary care network, Barnet Federated GPs, Training hub (former CEPN - community education provider networks) or NCL CCG activity.
Leave: 6 weeks annual leave and 1 week study leave allowance; 2 extra sessions for appraisal (all pro-rated to number of sessions)

Main duties of the job
- In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
- Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
- In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
- Providing counselling and health education
- Referring patients to other providers
- Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
- Collecting data for audit purposes
- Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
- Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
- In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Watling Medical Centre is a well-established 5 GP Partners general practice with over 17,500 registered patients spread over two sites. The practice was established at the beginning of the 20th century. Watling Medical Centre is well known for its high clinical standards and being a friendly place to work. We have always been proud of being a part of the local community, having long standing staff members, being one of the largest training practices in Barnet and being apart of a very active Primary Care Network employing number of associate medical professionals.
