Job summary
Throckley Primary Care is a 4 partner, 7,200 patient practice on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne.
We are heavily involved in undergraduate and post graduate teaching. We host all years of Newcastle University medical students and 3 of the partners are GP trainers.
We are keen to support applicants who wish to take up the HENE GP fellowship offer of one session a week for personal development in your chosen area
We have daily clinical meetings were all team members get together to discuss the working day including home visit requests and any clinical problems arising.
Throckley is an old mining village and the sense of community remains very strong, this is a chance to experience family practice in the true sense of the word. Continuity of practitioner is very high as is patient satisfaction.
Main duties of the job
Providing complete clinical care to our community including home visits, share of on-call shifts. There is no routine work on an on-call day. We encourage GPs to follow-up their own patients where appropriate to ensure good continuity and patient care.
All adults are offered an initial telephone consultation which may/may not be followed up by face to face depending on individual clinician's assessment. Clinicians are free to book flexible appointment times. Clinicians have 14 x 10 minute telephone consultations in the morning and 8 x 10 minute in the afternoon. Additional face to face consultations in the afternoon as necessary are booked by the clinician.
Interest in under graduate teaching is welcomed as there is plenty of opportunity to do this.
Opportunities also include sexual health clinics, nursing home ward rounds.
About us
We are a doctor led practice with 4 partners, 3 salaried GPs. We have a very stable partnership team ranging from 7 years to 29 years in the practice. One of our partners is now leaving so we are looking to replace with either a new partner or a salaried GP.
We are a busy, friendly and supportive practice. Our team includes; 2 practice nurses, health care assistants, pharmacy technician and administrative support team who undertake signposting, and manage all incoming mail including prescription changes and coding. Hospital discharge medications are reconciled by the PCN Pharmacy Team. This all helps to reduce GP workload considerably.
