Contraception and Womens Health Nurse

Job summary

We are excited to offer a new nursing post at HMG, Contraception and Womens Health Nurse working 24 hours. We are looking for a suitably qualified Nurse to manage the contraceptive needs of our patients at HMG, and give advice on Womens health. Working autonomously as part of a multi-disciplinary team you will manage the contraceptive and associated womens health needs in pre-planned clinics. You will work collaboratively with the healthcare team, within your own competencies to meet the needs of the patients in this specialist area.

You will be supported from the Clinical Workforce Manager and the Lead GP for Womens Health, plus form part of a larger supportive nursing team.

Main duties of the job

Provide a comprehensive contractive service and advise:

  • Management of patients contraceptive needs, including LARCs.
  • Management of patients with menopausal symptoms and advise on the use of HRT, prescribing within the scope of competency
  • Fitting and changing of ring pessaries
  • Fitting, removal and checks of IUCDs
  • Fitting, removal and checks of subdermal implants
  • Advice and management of patients taking oral contraceptive medicines
  • Breast care queries and problems
  • Advice and management of patients with Osteoporosis
  • Smear taking as directed by the national screening programme, or as clinically necessary.
  • Gain an awareness of local services for women to aid as a resource for colleagues
  • Maintain an awareness about the general health of patients, managing the patients in a holistic manner and signposting as necessary.
  • Make referrals to secondary care and social services within locally agreed protocols, guidance and pathways.
  • To instruct and educate patients in preventative health care, particularly in regards to womens health.
  • Fully document all aspects of patient care and complete all required paperwork for legal and administrative purposes.
  • Offer a holistic service to patients developing where appropriate an on-going plan of care/support with an emphasis on prevention and self-care.
  • Contribute to the practice quality targets to achieve high standards of safe, evidence-based, cost-effective patient care and service delivery.
