Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen and we are looking to recruit a second Healthcare Assistant to join our very busy but friendly team serving almost 11,000 patients from our GP surgery in Haslingden. You will support our practice nursing team, and we are looking for 30 hours per week (negotiable)

We are looking for an experienced, dedicated team player who will have experience in HCA duties and be enthusiastic and confident whilst always putting patient care first.

Main duties of the job

Provide phlebotomy service for the practice population

Undertake routine diagnostic nursing tasks such as ECG's, BP checks, Blood Glucose monitoring, heights, weights and urinalysis.

Complete Health assessments on newly registered patients where necessary; Promote health education; undertake NHS health checks; promote health and well being; complete long term condition monitoring with the appropriate training; participate in campaigns; administer vaccines under PSD's;

About us

We have a fantastic team here at Haslingden which comprises of 2 GP partners, 1 salaried GP, 3 x regular locum GP's, 1 ANP, Practice Nurses, plus numerous additional roles staff including a First Contact Physio, Trainee Associate Psychological Practitioner, Physician Associate, Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician and Health and Wellbeing Coach.

Our admin team comprises of a Practice Manager and deputy together with many supportive staff including reception.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary

To be a member of the practice-based nursing team helping to improve the quality and range of nursing services available to primary care based on the health needs of the local population.

Objectives:

Improved access to primary care for the practice population

Service development within the practice

Professional development of the health care assistant and the mentoring nurse

Summary of Role:

Assisting the nursing staff and other health care professionals in the delivery of the highest standard of patient care ensuring that this is sensitive to the needs of the patient. Manage your own clinics, delivering long term condition checks, blood tests etc both in practice and, where required, in the patients homes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide phlebotomy service for the practice population

Undertake routine diagnostic nursing tasks such as ECGs, BP checks, Blood Glucose monitoring, routine heights, weights, and urinalysis

Complete health assessments on newly registered patients where required documenting histories

Use patient contacts as opportunities to promote health education including education on practice systems such as obtaining a blood result

Undertake NHS Health Checks using the opportunity to promote health and well being

Complete long term condition monitoring with appropriate training

Participate in campaigns, administer vaccinations under patient specific directions

Accept delegation from other nurses, prioritise own workload and ensure effective time-management

Record and document all patient contacts

Clinical Responsibilities:

Ensure that your clinical room is always kept clean and tidy, and that relevant equipment is ready for use during clinic sessions

Ensure that the daily vaccine fridge temperatures are correct and that vaccines are within their expiry dates and used in correct sequence

Order stock as directed ensuring that adequate levels of stock are available in surgery. Maintain the cold chain when vaccines are delivered

Maintain clinical equipment reporting any defects to the Practice Manager
