Job summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate General Practitioner to join our team at Garstang Medical Practice for up to 6 sessions per week on a 6-month contract. Days to be discussed at interview stage. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing excellent patient care, conducting routine check-ups, and diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions. Home visits and duty sessions will not be included in this post. Our General Practitioner will work closely with patients of all ages, from children to seniors, and will be expected to deliver high-quality care.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a doctor within the practice primary health care team, comprising of doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, practice pharmacists, attached staff (CM, DNs, HVs, Physio, etc) and administration staff. Holding surgeries and participating in a comprehensive service for the primary care management of acute and chronic disease including health promotion, health screening and illness prevention programmes eg work on the QoF framework.
  • To deliver quality clinical care in accordance with the relevant practice protocols and in line with the GMC Code of Conduct and
  • Evidence based medicine
  • To work with, provide assistance to and help develop the practice nursing team and PHCT.
  • To provide cover for the partners if requested by mutual agreement
  • To enjoy working as part of the team

Professional responsibilities

  • To maintain full registration with the GMC and with a recognised medical defence organisation approved by the partners.
  • To maintain full registration on the NHSE approved doctor list
  • To maintain accurate and contemporaneous records of activities both written and computerised as applicable to an agreed standard. The practice has a paperless approach and as such the computer records form the main record of all interactions with patients.
  • To promote good communications within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To maintain and update professional knowledge in line with Clinical Governance, Quality and Outcomes Framework and your personal development plan
  • To participate in educational programmes within the practice
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence based best practice.
  • To participate in GP appraisal
  • To maintain standards of conduct and dress to maintain public confidence
  • To maintain confidentiality in all areas at all times

Clinical Responsibilities

  • As agreed the post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, queries, home visits, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, processing of patient results and correspondence in accordance with practice protocols.
  • To be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, treating and/or referring patients. To opportunistically complete the necessary checks and record appropriate data to support the practice in meeting the QOF, attaining nGMS contract quality points, attaining targets and any future targets etc.
  • To identify, assess and discuss patients problems or needs with the patients, relative/carers and other PHCT members and devise a management plan and monitor the outcome.
  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Administration and miscellaneous

  • To ensure that any in house audit and requirement are achieved eg QOF prompts are actioned
  • To complete all statutory and other paperwork/data entry both for medico-legal purposes and to facilitate claims under GMS.
  • To record all clinical activity and health promotion data in the practice computer system
  • To complete Personal Medical Attendant (PMA) reports for insurance and legal purpose for patients
  • All fees earned as a direct consequence of your work for the practice, should be paid directly to the practice and do not form part of your remuneration.
  • To maintain good lines of communication with the partners and the practice management
  • To promptly notify the sickness line of an absence
  • To book annual leave via Timetastic (adhering to the rota rules) and provide reasonable help/cover for colleagues absence or leave.
  • To observe health and safety rules laid down by the practice
