Job summary

A exciting opportunity has arisen for a Practice Nurse to work with us at Wolseley Medical Centre. We are looking for a confident nurse with a passion for delivering outstanding care. Working as part of our friendly team you will support the delivery of excellent patient care and improving the health and wellbeing of our patients.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will need to be proficient in all aspects of treatment room nursing and have the ability to work within a team.

Your skills should also include but are not limited to, Cervical Screening and childhood and travel vaccinations. In addition, qualifications and expertise in chronic disease management is advantageous.

The Practice Nurse will have some responsibility for a number of clinical areas such as infection prevention and control, health promotion, chronic disease management, as well as actively supporting the practice management team in the reviewing and delivery of clinical policy and procedure. The post holder will ensure nursing services are delivered effectively to the entitled patient population.

Previous experience of SystmOne would be advantageous.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide assessment, treatment, screening, health education services and advice working in accordance with the NMC Code of conduct

Provide nursing treatments to Patients independently or in participation with other clinical colleagues working to agreed protocols and guidelines

Provide general and specific health screenings to the Practice Patients within agreed protocols and guidelines referring to other members of the clinical team as necessary

To manage Patients with chronic diseases

Participate in national screening work such as cervical cytology and meet targets delivering the national immunisation and vaccination schedule

Nursing procedures to include:

Measuring blood pressure

Routine injections as prescribed

Cervical smears

Travel advice and immunisation

Vaccinations and immunisations

To participate in research within the Practice

To be responsible for the efficient running of the treatment room and equipment

Select, carry out and interpret results of specific tests

Ensure all statutory regulations (e.g. Infection control, Health & Safety, COSHH, etc.) are implemented and adhered to

To maintain accurate, comprehensive records of all consultations and treatments in the Patients notes, both written and computerised

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with Patient health care and registration with the Practice

Ensure collection of statistical information is required for regular and ad hoc reports

To have working knowledge of equipment used in the surgery

Ensure compliance with Patient confidentiality at all times in line with current legislation

Contribute to the development of new Patient services

Inform your line manager of any reported or suspected failings in the provision of care within the Practice

  • Relevant diplomas in management of Long Term conditions
  • Knowledge of vaccinations and Immunisations
  • Experience of working as an experienced Practice nurse in GP practice
  • Ability to develop and maintain communication with people about difficult matters and / or difficult situations
  • Basic IT skills (SystmOne,MS Office, Internet)
  • Use of Ardens clinical templates
  • Time Management skills to maintain the smooth running of own clinics and ensure all calls and recalls are completed in a timely manner
