Overview of organisation
New Barn Close Surgery is an NHS General Practice, providing primary care service in Broadway, Worcestershire, and the surrounding areas. We are a three partner, four salaried, rural dispensing practice for 8000 patients, with one Nurse Manager, three Practice Nurses, two HCAs and a phlebotomist to complete the in-house clinical team. We relocated to a new purpose-built building in October 2021, equipped with new facilities and equipment, including ample free on-site parking. We are committed to offering high-quality, safe and effective care with a focus on providing excellent patient access and continuity of care. We were rated as overall Good in our last CQC inspection in May 2025

Job SUMMARY and PURPOSE
To provide nursing services to the patients of the practice, including treatments, screening, disease management and advice, within the professional competence of the post holder. To work autonomously and unsupervised but responsible to the GPs.
To provide a service which is complementary to that of the GPs.
To make the best use of clinical skills within the practice.
To liaise with the Nurse Manager and other clinical members of the primary healthcare team.
Job Responsibilities:
- To assist and perform routine nursing tasks related to patient care as directed and agreed with the Nurse Manager and GPs.
- To provide essential Treatment duties such as BP checks, NHS Health checks, prescribed injections, BMI and lifestyle advice, suture and clip removal
- To provide holistic assessment of wounds and implement wound care in line with current evidence-based guidelines. Inclusive of the treatment of minor traumatic wounds within own level of competency.
- Offer advice about childhood and adult immunisations and ensure vaccines/injections are administrated under patient group directives or individual prescription.
- To undertake the collection of pathological & microbiology specimens including venepuncture, swabs, urine culture in line with local guidelines
- Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for relevant investigatory procedures such as cervical cytology, ECG and dopplers
- To provide general health promotion education, advice on national screening programmes and guide/refer patients to appropriate services or other health professionals as deemed appropriate.
- To work independently, supported by the clinical team, you will deliver Chronic Disease Management within the boundaries of your role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long-term conditions i.e. Diabetes is essential, Ischaemic Heart Disease, Hypertension, health prevention and reviewing screening activities.
- To participate in developments within the practice and support QOF requirements.
- Undertaking annual contraceptive reviews and injections in line with practice policies.
- To maintain effective infection control measures in line with local guidelines and practice policy.
- To be able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis, according to the current UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
- Work in accordance with NMC The Code for Nurses and Midwives (2015). Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes and on computers, as per NMC guidelines.
- Awareness of statutory protection procedures including referral and recognition of signs and symptoms of child abuse.
- Awareness of referral mechanisms for mental health issues, family violence, vulnerable adults and addictive behaviours.
- Actively take part in mandatory and internalexternal training as requested.
Other Tasks:
Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms. Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and medication.
Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician
Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
Maintain stock of waiting room leaflets as instructed by partners and Practice Manager
Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
A duty to advise GP of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks
Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required
On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits, such as flu & COVID vaccinations
Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
