Job summary

Burwell Surgery is a well-regarded dispensing and training village practice. Situated within easy reach of Cambridge and the A14. Burwell has plenty of facilities to serve the local residents and has a real sense of community. The premises offer plenty of on-site parking for staff.

We are looking to recruit a Clinical Pharmacist to work 22.5 to 30 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

To provide medicines management support to patients and GPs and to manage the Clinical Pharmacist Team workload within Burwell Surgery.

We are a SystmOne practice and we use AskmyGP as our online access system.

We are a member of Cambridge GP Federation, Cambridge and Peterborough ICB and South Ely PCN. We have a high QOF achievement and for many years, we have received excellent patient survey results, which we are very proud of.

We have an excellent Admin and Nursing Team and other team members include Advanced Paramedic Practitioner, First Contact Physiotherapist, Social prescriber and Health Coaches. We are a Research active practice and as a Training practice we offer a range of training for both Medical Students and GP Registrars.

  • Support Pharmacy Technician
  • Clinical medication review
  • Patient-facing clinics for people living with long-term conditions
  • Receive on-the-day referrals for patients needing advice and guidance
  • Management of common/minor/self-limiting ailments
  • Provide medicine information to practice staff and patients
  • Signposting
  • Repeat prescribing
  • Offer support, education and training to others
  • Reducing unplanned hospital admissions
  • Management of medicines after discharge from hospital
  • Safety netting
  • Risk stratification
  • Information management and service development
  • Medicines quality improvement and medicines safety
  • Undertake clinical audits of prescribing in areas to ensure compliant with CQC standards
  • Communicate key updates to Practice colleagues

Qualifications

Essential

  • Must have completed an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy.
  • Have registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Must hold, or be willing to work towards, an Independent Prescribing qualification.

Desirable

  • Have formal qualification(s) in relevant Pharmaceutical / Pharmacological area.
  • Be up to date with Safeguarding and other mandatory training.

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of three years experience as a Pharmacist, demonstrated within a practice portfolio.
  • Experience and an awareness of the breadth of common acute and long-terms conditions that are likely to be seen in general practice.
  • Experience of partnership/collaborative working and of building relationships across a variety of organisations.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • An appreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing and strategies for improving prescribing.
  • Able to plan, manage, monitor and review general medicine optimisation issues in core areas for long term conditions.
  • Able to identify and resolve risk management issues according to policy/protocol.
  • Able to gain acceptance for recommendations and influence/motivate/persuade the audience to comply with the recommendations/agreed course of action, including when there may be significant barriers.
  • Demonstrates personal accountability, and is able to recognise personal limitations and ask for support / refer to more appropriate colleagues when necessary.
