Medical Receptionist / Dispenser

Job summary

Scots Gap Medical Group are looking for a confident, enthusiastic team player to join us as medical receptionist.

You will be the first point of contact to both patients and other stakeholders, so good communication skills are essential. Your professional manner will demonstrate the high standards of the practice and the quality of care that is given at Scots Gap Medical Group.

Main duties of the job

• To provide high quality reception and administrative support to patients and staff.
• act as first point of contact to both patients and other visitors.
• checking in patients and booking appointments.
• answering the phone and dealing with queries.
• prescription ordering/queries.
• handing out prescriptions.
• referrals to other services.
• patient navigation.
• taking accurate and detailed information and recording for triage.
• maintaining accurate patient records.
• registration of new patients, temporary and permanent.
• liaise with other services in the community.
• triage of urgent appointments, ensuring that the patient is seen by the most appropriate clinician.
• ensure that bloods / specimens are correctly bagged and given to the courier.
• following practice policies and guidelines.
• the opportunity to work towards a dispensing qualification.

About us

Scots Gap Medical Group is a small rural dispensing practice, consisting of 2 practices; The main practice in Scots Gap and the branch site in Stamfordham.

Over the 2 premises, we are a small team consisting of:

• 2 GP partners
• 1 Practice Nurse
• 1 Practice Manager
• 1 Healthcare Assistant
• 2 Medical Secretary
• 5 Receptionists
• we also have additional role staff consisting off a practice Pharmacist, Physiotherapist, Paramedic, Care coordinator, Living well coordinator and a Mental health worker.

We all work together as a multi-disciplinary team. There is flexibility and the chance to work across both practices although this post will primarily be based at Scots Gap Surgery. Full training and supervision will be given. Training and development is encouraged within the practice. Annual appraisals and constant reviewing ensures that everyone in the team is working to their optimised level. Monthly team meetings and sharing of best practice make the running of the 2 surgeries a full team effort.
