PRACTICE NURSE

We are an established medical practice based in Shrewsbury with a list size of just over 11,000 patients. We have an opportunity for a Practice Nurse to join our team covering general practice nursing and respiratory. We have 8 GPs, a nursing & pharmacy team and an on-site pharmacy.

We are looking for a Practice Nurse to join our established team, with an interest or previous experience in Respiratory.

The position is for 24 hours a week. Monday 8:30am - 5:30pm, Tuesday 8:30am - 5:30pm and Thursday 11:00am - 8:00pm.

The position is subject to background checks including an enhanced DBS check.

Main duties of the job

PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Providing assessment, screening treatment services and health education advice.
2. Provide nursing treatment and specific health screening to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently agreed protocols, including cervical smears
3. Be competent in administration of childhood immunisation and travel vaccination.
4. Be competent and confident in managing people with long term health conditions.
5. Work with patients in order to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments.
6. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
7. Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles, and apply principles of self-care.
8. Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children.
9. Meet the needs of patients presenting for opportunistic wound care.
10. Carry out home visits to patients as required.
