Main duties of the job
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will assist in clinical care and administrative tasks to ensure smooth patient flow and help the practice meet QOF and CQC requirements. You will work under the supervision of the Lead nurse and GPs, contributing to health promotion, chronic disease management, and routine patient care. Conducting phlebotomy (blood tests), ECGs, blood pressure checks, and urinalysis.
About us
We are a practice consisting of 6 GP Partners, 4 salaried GPs, 4 Practice Nurses, 4 Health Care Assistants, and a lovely admin team. We have around 8,900 patients. We operate from a large multi-purpose building in Eccleshill, where we also have Physiotherapists Social Prescribers, Ultrasound, Epilepsy and memory clinics and the District Midwives. We have a strong training focus in practice, training 6 GP registrars, FY2 doctors, medical students, advanced nurse practitioners, and nursing students. We are an understanding, flexible, warm, supportive multi-disciplinary team, with experienced staff that have worked with us for many years. And we are proud to have a very low staff turnover due to the friendly, professional, rewarding, and supportive environment.

Job responsibilities
- Conducting phlebotomy (blood tests), ECGs, blood pressure checks, and urinalysis.
- Assisting with chronic disease monitoring (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, COPD) in line with QOF.
- Performing wound care, dressings, and suture removal(if trained).
- Administering flu, pneumonia, and B12 injections (if trained).
- Supporting NHS Health Checks and lifestyle advice.
- Assisting with vaccination and immunisation programmes (if trained).
- Ensuring infection control compliance and adherence to CQC standards.
- Maintaining accurate clinical records using SystmOne.
- Supporting audits, recall systems, and data collection for QOF and CQC compliance.
- Assist with Medical Procedures: Assist GPs in performing medical procedures and examinations, including taking blood samples and urine tests.
- Clinical Audits: Participate in regular clinical audits to ensure high standards of care and identify areas for improvement. Including Infection control audits, fridge checks and managing the drugs log.
- Team Meetings:Actively participate in the variety of practice meetings.
- Mentor, support and develop colleagues and students: Support the variety of students we have on placement or training in practice.
- Collaboration & Teamwork: Work closely with GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff to ensure effective patient care delivery.
- Emergency Response: Provide initial assessment and care for patients in urgent situations before the arrival of a GP or paramedics, if required.

- - Experience as an HCA in a healthcare setting (preferably primary care)
- - Phlebotomy skills ( Adult essential)
- - NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent)
- - GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
Desirable
- - Phlebotomy skills (children)
- -Experienced in vaccinations (B12, flu etc)
- - Experience in performing spirometry
- - Ear Syringing
- - Experience with wound care/ dressings
