Job summary

G DOC LTD is a non-profit organisation that aims to strengthen primary care and general practice by delivering safe, high quality and innovative care. We currently run four GP Practices in Gloucestershire (two in Gloucester City and two in the Forest of Dean) and provide a number of bespoke primary care services across the county.

We are looking for a Deputy Practice Manager (DPM) to join our Forest of Dean sites, Blakeney Surgery & The Lydney Practice. The Practice has experienced GP leads, a stable clinical and non-clinical workforce, and serves a deserving population in the Forest of Dean. Having recently participated in the General Practice Improvement Programme, we can say with confidence that that practice is well run, efficiently, and constantly improving.

Main duties of the job

Ideally, previous experience in general practice or the health care environment. This needn't be in a general practice / a deputy practice manager position, but the ideal candidate would have some managerial / supervisory experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills and a basic knowledge of HR procedures.

Excellent organisational skills, flexibility, and ability to prioritise.

Comfortable working with IT / Computers with strong attention to detail. Ideally some experience of NHS compliance and claims processes.

Kind, respectful and friendly approach to colleagues and patients.

Enjoys working as a part of a team to achieve collective results that benefit our patients.

Line management of teams at both Blakeney Surgery & the Lydney Practice, including oversight of training, continuous development, and appraisals.

In conjunction with Team Leads, ensure comprehensive and safe rota fill for clinical and non-clinical staff.

Arrange meetings, chair in the absence of the Practice Manager or other lead role. Typing and sharing meeting minutes with the appropriate staff.

To monitor and manage clinical rotas within the practice clinical system.

Stand in for the Practice Manager as required to cover leave and any short-term sickness.

Any reasonable duties which may be requested from time to time.

Responsible for routine facilities management at the Practice and branch site to include that buildings, services and facilities are effectively maintained including in conjunction with Lead Nurse infection control

Responsible for routine equipment management and maintenance at the Practice and branch site including testing, security, and repairs. This is to be done in line with legislative and insurance requirements

Responsible for detailed work submitting NHS claims.

Personal alarms are available from G DOC for all GPs, wherever you are working. Your site induction should cover local procedures for summoning external help. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with these local procedures.

You must comply with site Health and Safety procedures, including those that concern clinical waste, use of hazardous substances, and the use and disposal of sharps.

Health and safety hazards should be reported to the Practice Manager.

You should dress appropriately and professionally. To reduce the risk of sharps injuries, shoes should be closed (not open sandals).

You must ensure that your car is insured for commuting and for any business use, if applicable (e.g. home visits if part of your role).

GP staff in Gloucestershire have been the victims of serious & sustained stalking and violence. You should not give anyone outside the Practice information about when and where colleagues will be working. Refer any queries about rotas etc to the Practice Manager or G DOC. Be aware that stalkers may have knowledge of the local healthcare system and sound very plausible.
