Job summary

The Lydney Practice is looking to expand their team with another friendly salaried GP to cover anything between 4-8 sessions a week. Lydney is situated within the Royal Forest of Dean with surrounding areas that boast considerable natural beauty. The surgery is home to close to 8000 patients and is highly respected within the locality.

In the last couple of years, The Lydney Practice has teamed up with GDOC, our local GP Provider organisation, which is owned and run by all the practices of Gloucestershire. This has meant that Lydney Practice became the first all salaried model in the Forest. Being part of the GDOC family offers the ability to develop a portfolio career with additional opportunities such as research, training, minor ops, sexual health and urgent care.

The surgery maintains its own individuality with its own management team and practice staff. Doctors will work in Lydney unless they choose to perform other roles in GDOC.

The salary is extremely competitive with just over £11,400 per session. Medical indemnity is provided, and over time will also be covered. Annual leave and Study leave are offered at comparable amounts pro rata.

Planning is also in progress for a new purpose built premises.

Main duties of the job

We have recently been working to make the GP day as manageable as possible. We have capped emergency clinics (12 per session) and capped routine clinics (12 per session). We have an experienced ANP covering emergencies during the day for 3 days of the week alongside the on call. Doctors will also receive an administration session during the week, allowing them to catch up with weekly tasks, reports etc.

Last year the practice became a training practice, so we have ST1/2/3 trainees throughout the year. This allows the opportunity for anyone to become involved in training, for example supervising sessions, or developing interests in becoming Clinical or Educational Supervisors.

Currently, as extras, the doctors offer,

Steroid injection clinics

Dermoscopy clinics

Coil Fitiings

Minor Ops

And there is the ability to train for new provisions if you wish to get involved.
