Job summary
To
support the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery of
clinical and administrative services, working as part of the practice
multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the
entitled patient population.
The
Healthcare Assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of
treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education whilst
also supporting the administrative team on an as-required basis.
To act as the practice 'carer's lead' supporting those who provide unpaid care to others.
We are seeking applications from experienced candidates, although training is available. To ensure we attract the right person, part time (across a minimum of 4 days a week) or full time hours are available and candidates should express their preference in their application.

About us
Cerne Abbas Surgery is an innovative, three partner rural General Practice near Dorchester serving 4,200 patients. We operate an integrated nursing team (INT), delivering both practice and community nursing care to all of our patients. We topped the list for Dorset in the National Patient satisfaction survey for 2023 scoring 98% and we are rated Good by the Care Quality Commission.
The INT consists of a team of six qualified nurses working full and part time hours, together with a part-time phlebotomist. This HCA role has become available due to the current post holder relocating.
We are a dispensing practice and provide medication to most of our patients, dispensing over 9,000 items a month.
The surgery is an integral part of Mid Dorset PCN, a group of 8 local practices working closely to provide services to patients.

There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be
dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Undertake new patient health checks
- Support the Integrated Nurse Team (INT)
with health promotion programmes
- Carry out baseline observations such as
pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings
accurately
- Facilitate routine and urgent 24-hour BP
monitoring, advising patients accordingly
- Undertake wound care, dressings and
other clinical tasks as required
- Support the Integrated Nurse Team (INT) with
the management of chronic disease clinics
- Carry out BMI checks as directed
- Act as a chaperone as required
- When trained, undertake venipuncture, administer
flu vaccinations and other tasks as required
- Carry out ECGs as requested
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready
for onward transportation
- Provide support during minor operations
as required
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately
stocked and prepared for each session
- Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in
accordance with guidance and temperature monitoring is maintained and recorded
appropriately
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from
clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations
IPC policy
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion
where appropriate
- Act as the practice's carer's lead
