Medical Letter Reader

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Administrator to join our dedicated team here at Strathmore, if you are an retired nurse/paramedic/GP or even a graduate looking for a challenge? Looking to work a minimum of 10 hours a week? How about joining our friendly, dedicated team.

The successful candidate will work as part of the team, managing key tasks including:

Processing patient letters from hospitals and other 3rd parties

Summarising of patient medical notes

Assigning industry-recognised codes to medical system

IT Literacy, together with EMIS experience would be preferred, although not essential, as full training will be provided

Previous applicants need not apply

This is a part time role of 20 hours a week.

Main duties of the job

Duties involve

Support the GP's and other clinicians by reducing their documentation workload and maintaining accurate, concise medical records.

Dealing with but not limited to:-

Reports/investigations from hospitals and 3rd Party

Colonoscopy...Opthalmology...Diabetic Retinopathy

DNA appointments

Faxes: screen alerts - letters from patients - discharge prescriptions - new diagnosis - repeat bloods - coding - bowel screening - drug changes

About us

Strathmore Medical Practice are looking to expand the team of Letter Readers in our Medical Administration Department. We are a highly motivated team and have over 14.000 patients. Due to our size we value communication and teamwork.

This is a demanding role but very worthwhile and rewarding.

Understand the importance of strict confidentiality when dealing with any patient details and company information.

Enjoy working within a team, working together and be willing to help and assist others where possible.

Experience of using EMIS Web and Docman 10 is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

Experience of working with the NHS or medical environment would be advantageous

The main role details

Read, evaluate and action letters/correspondence to doctors:- letters from OPD clinics, A&E, Opticians, Ambulance, Patients and hospital discharges all correspondence checked:- Name, address, new diagnosis,medication changes, repeat blood tests and referrals.

These are then highlighted and sent to the appropriate department for actioning.

Any letters of concern e.g DNA appointments, social services reports, police reports etc are forwarded to the GP's.

  • Good standard of English to GCSE grade A - C
  • A good attention to detail is highly expected.
  • This post will also be suitable for Medical Secretaries/ex-nurses/midwives/A&E/paramedics looking for part time work.
  • Clinical Knowledge

Desirable

  • Clinical knowledge an advantage although further training will be given.
  • Experience of clinical systems - DOCMAN 10/EMIS
  • Ability to prioritise
