Job summary

Sherbourne Medical Centre has a rare vacancy for a Practice Nurse to join our practice team due to planned retirement.

We are looking to recruit an experienced practice nurse with the full range of treatment room competencies, ideally including chronic disease management.

We are an established training practice and proactive in supporting the training and development of our team.

Systems used include EMIS Web, Docman, ICE, AccuRx and T-Quest.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, computer, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work efficiently under pressure and as part of a collaborative team.

The position is on a part time basis (circa 24 hours hours per week).

Main duties of the job

  • Childhood and adult immunisations

  • Depot (IM) injections

  • Cervical cytology

  • Wound care, dressings and removal of sutures

  • Contraception reviews and sexual health advice

  • Health promotion and lifestyle advice

  • NHS Health Checks and routine monitoring

  • Managing and supporting long-term conditions (e.g., asthma, COPD, diabetes, CVD)

  • Supporting the multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality patient care

Training will be provided for areas where you do not yet have experience, ensuring you feel confident and supported as you develop your practice nursing skills.

Car parking permit provided to all clinical staff allowing parking in the town centre with plenty of parking available.

We are an active participant in the Leamington Spa PCN and also host a range of additional healthcare professionals including a paramedic, pharmacists, first contact physiotherapists, GP and social prescribers.

Job responsibilities

Long-Term Condition Management

  • Support the review and management of long-term conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, COPD, and CVD.
  • Flu, RSV, shingles and pneumococcal vaccination to at risk groups.

General Practice Nursing Duties

  • Provide immunisations and depot (IM) injections.
  • Child immunisations.
  • Travel health vaccinations.
  • Perform cervical smears, pregnancy tests, and
  • Contraception reviews and advice.
  • Assist GPs with minor surgeries and coil fittings if required.
  • Carry out ECGs, urinalysis, and wound care (including ulcer management and suture removal).
  • Review and action pathology tests such as urine culture and swabs where appropriate.
  • Chaperone and assist patients being examined by other clinicians.

Leadership & Team Support

  • Mentor and supervise any new-to-practice nurses, nursing associates, and HCAs.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider practice team to enhance patient care.
  • Promote public health and screening programs, including immunisations and cervical screening.
  • Integrate population health management approaches to reduce health inequalities.

Clinical Governance & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, including prescribing audits and reviews if qualified.
  • Adhere to NMC revalidation requirements and practice within the NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Follow infection control policies and ensure safe handling of specimens.
  • Contribute to audits and service evaluations.
  • Support the effective use of NHS resources and practice policies.

  • Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of nursing and treatment rooms.
  • Maintain and clean clinical equipment.
