Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the nursing team at Bewick Crescent Surgery in a 28.5 hour part time position. The post has arisen as one of our team members is undertaking their nursing training.

We are looking for a nurse associate who is able to provide a high standard of patient care and services such as wound management, long term condition management, and cervical smears. The role is varied and covers a range of duties, and training can be given if needed to the right candidate. We are a supportive team and actively encourage and support learning and career progression. We believe in teamwork and we are looking for the correct candidates who understand this and will fit into our team ethos.The successful candidate must possess the ability to work within the MDT as well as being able to work independently and manage their own caseload.

Hours are negotiable to suit business needs and patient care delivery. Salary scale is dependent upon experience and qualifications. You will entitled to 5 weeks holiday + bank holidays pro rata to hours worked.

Salary is dependent upon skills and experience. There is the option to join or remain part of the NHS Pension scheme.

Annual mandatory training as well as paid training courses depending upon business needs.

The successful candidate will undergo a DBS check which the surgery will pay for.

Main duties of the job

Job Summary:

  • To provide care for the patient including history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care.
  • Be able to work both autonomously and collaboratively within both the clinical and administrative teams.
Key Responsibilities.

Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment for patients, whilst promoting evidence based care and prioritising problems appropriately.

Provide nursing treatments, general and specific health screening / long term condition management to patients.

  • Advise, support and administer vaccinations and injections for patients.
  • Undertake sample collection including venepuncture and swabs.

  • Utilise and demonstrate effective communication styles, to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment.
  • Act as an advocate for patients and colleagues.

Recognise and work within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the NMC.

  • Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records for patient consultations, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Prioritise and manage workloads in a manner that maintains and promotes quality.

Maintain continued professional development in accordance with the NMC revalidation guidelines.

Overview of your organisation

Bewick Crescent Surgery is a well known large GP practice located within Newton Aycliffe. It provides care to a practice population of approximately 13,500 patients. The wider practice team consists of 5 GP partners and 5 salaried GP's as well as the nursing and admin teams. The nursing team has 2 advanced nurse practitioners and 1 nurse practitioner, 5 practice nurses, one of whom is a trainee who is currently completing her nursing apprenticeship, a nursing associate and 5 healthcare assistants.

We provide a supportive and caring team environment which radiates throughout the whole practice team. We believe in working hard to meet the needs of our patient population, and like to go the extra mile to achieve this where possible.

Communicate effectively with patients and carer, recognising the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural backgrounds and preferred ways of communicating.

Anticipate barriers to communication and take action to improve communication.

Act as an advocate for patients and colleagues.
