Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Practice Nurse to our friendly, caring GP practice team which is located in Codsall, South Staffordshire.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse who will ideally have experience in managing long term conditions (diabetes, asthma, COPD), cervical cytology, childhood and adult immunisations, travel vaccinations, spirometry, contraception, sexual health and general practice nursing duties.

Experience of practice nursing is essential.

20 hours per week plus availability to cover annual and sick leave.

About us

The successful candidate will be working alongside an experienced Practice Nurse and Assistant Practitioner.

The practice has three GP Partners as well as one salaried GP. We have a patient list size of approximately 6500 patients.

REPORTS TO: THE PARTNERS (Clinically)

THE PRACTICE MANAGER (Administratively)

HOURS: 20 hours per week

Job summary:

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the practice team.

Job responsibilities:

Professional:

  • Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.
  • Management Open Exeter returns for cytology.
  • Perform chronic disease checks in accordance with national guidance.
  • Perform contraceptive checks.
  • Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions.
  • Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel including; vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection.
  • Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines.
  • Suture removal.
  • Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines.
  • Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for ear irrigation.
  • Take ECGs
  • Assessing problems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with minor illness.
  • Running well person clinics and health promotion programmes by providing a holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise. Facilitates change.
  • Able to document consultations according to NMC guidelines
  • Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
  • Co-operate and participate as required in any research projects within the practice.
  • Able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
  • Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
  • Assist in the provision of minor surgery.
  • Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written).
  • Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
  • Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration and emergency equipment.
