Job summary
Purton
Surgery is a well established friendly GP Surgery seeking a dedicated Medical
Secretary to join our healthcare team. We are looking for someone to join us for 6 - 8 hours per week to work with our two experienced medical secretaries.
Main duties of the job
The Medical Secretary role is to provide
general secretarial support to the Practice Manager, Doctors, and Healthcare
Professionals. To assist GPs with
processing patient referrals, to obtain results/information as necessary, and
carry out other administrative tasks for the surgery.
Experience of working within the NHS is an
advantage. Medical background preferred
but not essential. Full support and training will be given.
The ideal candidate would have excellent word
processing/Microsoft Windows skills.
Experience of Lexacom and Systmone preferred, along with knowledge of Medical
terminology. Strong attention to detail
and accuracy. Experience of digital/audio
typing. Good communication skills, both
written and verbal. Able to work under
pressure/prioritising work load. Strong work ethic to commit to deadlines and
completion. Able to work independently,
and as part of a team. Excellent
organizational and multitasking skills. Must have ability to maintain
confidentiality of patient information at all times.

Typing
patient NHS and private referral letters, medical reports, patient support
letters, invoices and responding to clinical correspondence from hospitals etc.
Raising
referral requests on the e-Referral System.
Ensuring all
urgent referrals are typed and processed within the required timeframe, and are
processed via most appropriate channel ensuring all necessary documentation
accompanies the referral to prevent referrals being rejected and held up in the
process.
Contacting
patient's for information in support of NHS funding applications required for
some referrals.
Ensuring
concise audit trail of work in patient's records on Systmone.
Communicating
with hospitals and clinics regarding patient referrals.
Managing
referral worklists on the e-Referral Service.
Dealing with day
to day task queries from doctors and other staff members.
General
office duties including but not limited to photocopying, emailing, answering
telephone calls & dealing with queries.
