Westrop Medical Practice

Primary Care Triage Nurse

The closing date is 08 February 2026

Job summary

Westrop Medical Practice is seeking an experienced clinician to join our multidisciplinary team in a front-line clinical triage and minor illness role.

This post focuses on the assessment and management of common acute presentations such as urinary tract infections, rashes, minor infections, and similar conditions that are routinely directed away from GP appointments. You will work closely with the reception and admin teams, providing timely clinical input to ensure patients are seen by the most appropriate clinician and that GP capacity is protected for more complex care.

The role combines clinical assessment, decision-making, and treatment within agreed scope and protocols, supporting safe access and efficient patient flow across a large, busy practice. You will be an important point of contact for managing everyday demand, offering reassurance, treatment, or escalation where needed.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident, experienced practitioner who enjoys autonomous working, clinical variety, and being central to how a practice functions day to day. We offer flexible sessional, working, a supportive multidisciplinary environment, and the chance to make a tangible difference to how patients access care.

Main duties of the job

You will assess and manage patients presenting with common acute conditions such as urinary tract infections, rashes, minor infections, and similar low-acuity presentations. Patients will be booked into you directly by the reception team to ensure they are seen promptly and by the most appropriate clinician.

You will undertake clinical assessments, make treatment decisions within your scope of practice, prescribe where appropriate, provide advice and safety-netting, and escalate to a GP when indicated. You will be expected to recognise red flags, manage risk appropriately, and document all consultations clearly and contemporaneously.

The role involves close working with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, paramedics, and the wider practice team to support safe access and effective use of appointments. You may also provide clinical input to support reception teams with appointment allocation, where appropriate.

You will work in line with practice protocols, local and national guidance, and clinical governance requirements, contributing to audit, learning, and service improvement as required.
