Job summary
The Physicians Associate will support the practice by working collaboratively with the healthcare and multidisciplinary team alongside GPs, physicians, nurses, doctors and registrars. As the Physician Associate you will highlight your wide range of skills including care planning, admin, managing result and safe decision making. The role plays a pivotal part in the community by providing care for primary care patients from initial history taking and clinical assessments through to the diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to take part in audits and research and support the delivery of policy and procedures.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to have undertaken postgraduate training and have current certification of Physician Associate National Exam or Nationational Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Physician associates are dependent practitioners but can work autonomously with appropriate support. However, you will need to stay within the limits of your scope of practice and know when to refer to doctors and other healthcare professionals.

The post holder will:
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide first point of contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems by taking medical history, performing physical examinations, using problem-solving and clinical decision-making skills to establish a diagnosis and management plan, working in partnership with patients, under appropriate supervision.

- Record clear IT based consultation notes to agreed standards.

Training and Responsibilities
- Commit to take and pass the necessary Physician Associate re-certification exams to maintain qualifications required to take out duties of the role and as statutory regulatory bodies require

- Undertake effective professional development as necessary to keep up to date with current requirements and in line with Practice policy.
- Undertake any relevant training as required relating to organisational standards and changes to software or systems
- Support and work closely with administrative and other clinical members of staff in the organisation/improvement of the practice systems for Clinical Governance and Quality Indicator targets
