Job summary
We are seeking a passionate and
proactive General Practitioner dedicated to addressing significant health
inequalities and managing health disparities within our diverse Indo-Pakistani
and Roma communities. This is an innovative role which combines elements of
traditional provision of clinical Primary Care but with an additional emphasis
on community outreach and tackling health inequity in our practice
population. The role will be supported
and mentored by senior GP leaders who will also provide exposure and learning
opportunities for the candidate in working in a managerial role in an NHS Trust
and will be appealing to newly qualified GPs who are interested in developing
their skills in potential portfolio roles.
This position will designed to attract a GP who is not only skilled but also deeply committed to understandinf and actively working to reduce health inequalities and manage health disparities within our Indo-Pakinstani and Roma communities. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who are passionate about equitable healthcare and have a genuine interest in engaging with and supporting these underserved popularities.
This role will be on a fixed-term contract until 31st March 2026, with the possibility to extend.
Main duties of the job
This crucial role will involve
providing comprehensive primary care services with a strong emphasis on
understanding and overcoming the specific barriers these communities face in
accessing and benefiting from healthcare. The post-holder will focus on
prevalent long-term conditions, tackle taboo health issues, support individuals
experiencing domestic abuse, and proactively engage with community networks
within both the Indo-Pakistani and Roma populations. Collaboration with
existing practice staff, community leaders, and partner organisations will be
essential to build trust, improve health literacy, and ensure equitable access
to high-quality, culturally competent healthcare for these underserved groups.

to registered patients, with a particular focus on understanding and addressing
the unique health needs of individuals from Indo-Pakistani and Roma heritages.
- Develop and implement targeted management plans
for prevalent long-term conditions within these communities, notably
hypertension and lipid management in the Indo-Pakistani population (considering
genetic predispositions) and other relevant conditions prevalent within the
Roma community.
- Proactively address taboo health areas such as
smoking and alcohol use within both communities, employing culturally sensitive
approaches to identify hidden habits and provide appropriate support,
particularly for women within the Indo-Pakistani community and considering the
specific cultural contexts within the Roma community.
- Identify and support patients experiencing
domestic abuse, demonstrating a deep understanding of the cultural barriers to
disclosure within both Indo-Pakistani and Roma communities and providing access
to culturally appropriate resources and safeguarding pathways.
- Conduct regular, proactive community outreach
specifically tailored to building trust and rapport within both Indo-Pakistani
and Roma communities, engaging with mosques, temples, Gurdwaras, Roma community
groups, and other relevant projects to promote health and wellbeing.
- Provide sensitive and non-judgmental care to
individuals navigating issues related to sexuality and sex before marriage,
with a nuanced understanding of the diverse religious and cultural contexts
within the Indo-Pakistani and Roma communities, ensuring access to appropriate
advice and services, including contraception where needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient
records, paying particular attention to recording relevant cultural and social
factors impacting health.
- Participate in practice meetings, clinical
governance activities, and continuing professional development, with a focus on
learning about the specific health needs and cultural contexts of the Indo-Pakistani

- Contribute to and provide written reports for an
NHS Trust environment and beyond to report on the progress of the role and its
