Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at our established and busy GP practice for an enthusiastic receptionist to join our friendly team.

We are a SystmOne practice. Experience as a GP receptionist is highly desirable as is experience as a receptionist in NHS or other health and social care roles. This a part-time role of 21 hours per week. This is fixed-term contract which will end in August 2024.

The closing date is 22nd October, but we reserve the right to close the advert for applications at any date prior to this.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the post-holder will be to receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, and effective way.

Job responsibilities

Main Duties / Key Tasks:

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice.

Provide care navigation/signposting of patients to appropriate services

Receive and make telephone calls as required.

Liaise with other clinical staff including district nurses, health visitors, etc.

To work in accordance with practice protocols.

Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow up appointments.

Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are followed.

Enter requests for appointments, tasks, general queries into clinical systems, ensuring to carefully record all relevant details and referring to doctor where necessary.

Ensure efficient running of appointment system and monitor flow of patients into treatment/consulting rooms.

Excellent listening, written and interpersonal skills with both staff, patients and other healthcare professionals. Friendly, approachable, flexible manner. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to respond , work at pace and to deadlines.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in General Practice, NHS, Social Care or similar environment as a receptionist. Experience of SystmOne clinical system. Highly responsive and able to adapt to what is required.
