Job summary

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of basic practice nursing services care to the practice population. Supported by the GP Partners and nursing team within the practice, they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long-term conditions, health prevention and screening activities. They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.

Main duties of the job

  • To practise a range of clinical skills gained through previous experience, undertaking the delivery of nursing care as a self-directing practitioner, working with the GPs to meet the clinical needs of our patients as appropriate.
  • To support structures already in place for the smooth running of the practice.
  • To provide effective leadership and management skills.
  • To ensure own actions are consistent with clinical governance systems.
  • To conduct audit and patient screening in pursuance of the objectives of the Quality & Outcomes Framework (QOF) of the PMS contract.

Eltham Palace is a GP Practice in Eltham (Greenwich), serving 8,800 patients.

We have 2 GP partners, 4 Sessional GPs, Practice Nurse, Clinical Pharmacists and highly committed and enthusiastic administrative and reception staff.

We adopt a team approach to patient care and endeavour to monitor the service provided to patients, to ensure that it meets current standards of excellence.

  • Wound care removal of sutures and staples
  • ECGs
  • Venepuncture
  • New patient medicals
  • Requesting pathology tests and processing the results advising patients accordingly
  • Understanding the importance of evidence-based practice
  • Understand the requirement for PGDs and associated policy
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes
  • Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to GPs
  • Chaperone procedure
  • Women health cervical cytology contraception etc
  • Immunisations routine childhood and travel
  • Chronic disease management
  • Travel medicine
  • Spirometry
  • Broad knowledge of clinical governance
  • Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
  • Awareness of issues within the wider health arena
  • Knowledge of health promotion strategies
