Zero Hour Position

  • The practice has a vacancy for a Health Care Assistant. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced HCA to join our friendly, well established nursing team.

  • The role carries a broad range of responsibilities. This vacancy is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

  • We are a very friendly practice with a list size of 16,000 patients. Our clinical system is Emis Web.

  • Should we receive sufficient applications we reserve the right to close the vacancy early.

Main duties of the job

Phlebotomy

Chaperoning duties

Weight Management

Pre diabetic checks

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Administrating influenzae, Pneumococcal and B12 injection under the supervision of the clinical team in accordance with practice protocol and PSD.

Clinical skills - health and well-being

Undertake, record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training.

Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory.

Measuring and recording following physiological measurements in routine presentations:

blood pressure

pulse rate and rhythm

temperature

height and weight - body mass index

ECG

Spirometry

24 hour ambulatory BP

NHS Health checks

Venepuncture for the collection of blood samples

Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.

Assist in raising awareness of health and well-being, and how it can be promoted.

Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence.

Support and monitor patients during nebulisation therapy

Assist GPs during Minor Surgery and Contraception clinics

Act as chaperone when required by GP or nurse colleagues

Deliver ear care following guidelines for safe practice and on completion of recognised training

Take part in the flu and other national immunisation programmes following guidelines and completion of recognised training

Communication

Ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment

Communicate effectively with patients and carers. Recognising the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural background and preferred ways of communicating

Anticipate barriers to communication and take action to improve communication

Act as an advocate when representing the patients and colleagues viewpoints to others

Build relationships with colleagues and others outside the practice to ensure effective communication

Delivering a quality service

Recognise and work within own competence

Produce accurate, timely and complete records of patient consultation using the computer system, templates and READ codes

Prioritise, organise and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality

Deliver care according to local and national guidance

Use reflection, peer review, Clinical Supervision, bench-marking and appraisal to monitor and improve practice
