Job summary

The Beaumont Elms Practice is looking for a Medical Summariser to provide support in running the surgery day-to-day. As an ever-growing practice with around 26,000 patients, we need an extra pair of hands to manage the workload that comes with this! Our friendly team is made up of around 80 people, some of which have worked for 19BS for 30 years.

This role would be based at Beaumont Street. Please do not apply if you cannot get to Beaumont Street without public transport. Please note this role is not eligable for sponsership.

Main duties of the job

The Medical Summariser's role is to concisely summarise and maintain a complete and accurate medical record for all of our new patients. This includes taking paper records from other practices as well as digital records. This can often mean correcting mistakes made by other practices, and cleaning up medical records to be more concise.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To be responsible for the read coding of relevant information into patients electronic healthcare records on EMIS clinical system, adhering to the organisation coding policy. In addition, the post holder will also support the multi-disciplinary team, providing administrative support as required, in line with the needs of the organisation.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Medical Summariser. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Reviewing records and accurately producing a summary of the patients medical history
  • Accurately SNOMED CT coding data on the clinical IT system
  • Reviewing progress of summarising, ensuring practice targets are achieved
  • Review all clinical letters ensuring they are processed appropriately in line with extant protocols
  • File and store records as required
  • Photocopy documentation as required
  • Action all incoming correspondence, emails and mail in a timely manner
  • Scan patient related documentation and attach scanned documents to patients healthcare records
  • Input data into patients healthcare records as necessary
  • Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately
  • Conduct system searches as requested
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
  • Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested
