Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and adaptable Healthcare Assistant to work as part of our friendly and enthusiastic team at Aspull Surgery. We are a forward looking, motivated and friendly practice, with an excellent team of clinical and non clinical staff. We are high QOF achievers with a patient list of approximately 6000 patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Assisting with patient duties as required and support other team members such as clinical and Nurse Lead with patient care.
  • Supporting the Practice with duties related to CQC outcomes and ensuring compliance is maintained.
  • You will be working with patients with long term conditions such as Diabetes etc. So must have experience in Phlebotomy.
  • Provide clinical procedures such as new patient health checks, BMI, blood pressure, pulse etc.
  • Completing administrative tasks such as new patient registrations, providing appropriate leaflets, stock control and ordering.

About us

Aspull Surgery is a well establish, two partner GP Practice in the village of Aspull, Wigan with a list size of 6000 patients. Our clinical team currently includes GPs, an ACP (from next year), Practice Nurses, Pharmacist along with a supportive administrative and reception team. We also have ARRS roles working with us including a First Contact Physiotherapist. We have recently become a teaching practice which we hope to expand upon. There is a strong team atmosphere and a focus on continuous development throughout the surgery.

We have recently moved into a brand new, state of the art building, that enhances both the working environment and patients experience.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Undertake new patient health checks
  • Perform ECG's
  • Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • Facilitate routine BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Carry out NHS health checks
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
  • Act as a chaperone as required
  • Administer flu vaccinations
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned and monitored as per policy
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

  • Must be able to adapt with changing priorities and be personable, polite and patient with our patients.
  • Must have basic PC skills such as Word, Excel and email.
  • Ability to use own judgement and be aware of professional boundaries they are working to.
