An exciting opportunity has arisen at Balance Street
Practice for a dispenser to join our amazing Dispensary team. We are looking to
recruit a qualified, confident, and caring dispenser to complement our team.
Balance Street Practice is a busy dispensing practice in
Uttoxeter, dispensing to just under 6000 patients and is involved in the
Dispensary Services Quality Scheme (DSQS)
Applicants should be computer literate, although we will
provide training to use our clinical system and have achieved as minimum a
standard equivalent to NVQ level 2 qualifications.
We have an exceptional dispensary team who work alongside
our GPs and Practice Staff to ensure our patients receive the best possible
care. We are looking for a new member of staff to join us who is a team player
and someone who has some flexibility to cover for sickness and annual leave.
Main duties of the job
Applicants should have experience of working in a GP
dispensary or community pharmacy to a level of 1,000 hours of work experience
within the past five years and be competent in the area that they are working.
We are looking for someone who can prioritise workloads and
capable of dealing with a range of queries.
Knowledge of medication, dispensing medication and medical
terminology is essential as is knowledge of stock control and good
organisational skills.
Responsibilities include:

About us
Balance Street Practice is set in the town of Uttoxeter in
Staffordshire. We have a population of 13,000 patients and we dispense to just
under 5000 patients.
The Practice consists of six Doctors, two Advance Nurse Practitioners,
one Physicians associate and several departments including Dispensary, Reception,
Secretarial/Admin, Medicine management and a nursing team.
We are a dedicated caring practice putting patients at the
heart of our work.
Our fantastic dispensary team is made of 7 members of staff.
It is led by our Dispensary Team Lead with 4 dispensers qualified to NVQ level
2 or equivalent. To support our Dispensary, we have 2 Dispensing Assistants and
a Level 3 Business Admin apprentice.

Responsibilities include:
Ideal candidates will project a positive and friendly image
to Dispensary patients and deal with queries in a professional and courteous
and efficient way. Assisting in the receiving and giving of prescriptions and
assist with stock control, ordering and re-stocking of the Dispensary.
Duties and responsibilities:
Responsible for ensuring prescriptions are picked
accurately, efficiently and productively including:
- Picking medication accurately and efficiently, ordering in
items to fulfil the prescription so it is ready for a dispenser to dispense it.
- Serve patients
- Receive and check patient prescriptions, ensuring the back
of the prescription is fully completed and charge the appropriate fee, as
necessary
- Ensuring a 72-hour turnaround of prescriptions
- Processing prescriptions via, repeat slips, face-to-face and
online and when necessary over the telephone
- Refer any queries regarding prescriptions to the appropriate
clinician
- Maintaining accurate records.
Responsible for always providing an efficient service to
patients, including:
- Constant and regular updating of professional knowledge
ensuring all current guidance adhered to within the limitations of the role,
including Controlled Drugs/Medicines Act/Misuse of Drugs Act etc.
- Maintaining a professional personal appearance
- Establishing and maintaining good effective relationships
with other health care
- individuals/services outside the practice environment
including Pharmacy/District Nurses/Drug Companies etc.
- Ensuring the dispensary is clean, tidy and secured
- Always Follow practice policies/procedures and Dispensary
SOPS
Responsible for the stock control within the Dispensary,
including:
- Ensuring the correct stock holding to encourage the maximum
of dispensed items
- Taking receipt of stock and checking off against the invoice
- Stock rotation to minimise wastage
- Date checking
- Ordering medication/appliances from the correct wholesaler
to maximise profit being guided by purchasing manager
Responsible for the administration relating to the
dispensary, including:
- Daily dispensing administration
- Stock control administration
Customer service/sales:
- Attend all patients with minimum delay
- Deal with patients /representatives politely and efficiently
- Whenever a complaint is received, acknowledge and refer to
Dispensary Lead
Till operations:
- Register all sales accurately
- Accurately complete correct paperwork associated with
cashing up writing on the prescription the correct fee taken.
Stock receiving, checking, unpacking, pricing, storage and
control:
- Check the items contained in the delivery against the
order/delivery note and report any discrepancies or shortages to a dispenser.
- Put received goods away placing newest stock to the back to
ensure correct stock rotation and remove from shelves out-of-date stock
- Order/count stock when necessary. Adhere to practice policy
on stock control and ordering
Responsible for ensuring maximum security and
confidentiality by:
- Maintaining strict confidentiality of both company and
patient information and comply with the Data Protection Act
- Ensuring a safe and healthy environment for both staff and
patients
- Implement maximum flexibility of work to maintain a high
level of efficiency, i.e. working in any area of the practice if requested to
do so according to the needs of the practice
- Compliance always to the staff contract, standard operating
procedures and any other company rules and procedures.
