Job summary

The Nelson Medical Practice is a dynamic,forward thinking and friendly Practice and we have an exciting opportunity for 2 part time Nurses to join our team for either 25 hours per week over 3 days on a Monday all day, Wednesday afternoon and Thursday all day, or working 27 hours per week over 4 days Monday all day, Weds & Thurs late afternoon and Friday all day. We operate from a large modern purpose built building , based in Wimbledon Chase, and we have an experienced and stable clinical workforce with a keen focus on high quality patient care. As a General Practice Nurse you will work as part of the Nursing Team and as part of the wider clinical team and you will support and care for a diverse patient group. As a large practice on a single site we have a strong emphasis on our team, for example we have a team of experienced Nurses, a Nurse Mentor and a Nursing Team Manager, so you are always well supported.

The Practice offers dedicated in house clinics for diabetes,minor surgery,family planning,postnatal and baby checks and baby and child immunisations. As well as offering a wide range of carr from smears to wound care to adult immunisations, travel immunisations and Chronic Disease Management. Whether you are a newly qualified General Practice Nurse or a more experienced General Practice Nurse looking to develop a specialist clinical interest you will be welcome in our friendly diverse team.

Main duties of the job

The main duties and purpose of the role are:

  • The implementation of Health Promotion and disease management strategies in line with NHS frameworks, and provision of a full range of nursing services to the patients of the practice.
  • Chronic Disease Management
  • Completion of NHS health checks,health screening,immunisation and vaccination programmes in accordance with PGD's
  • Provision of travel advice and administer where appropriate travel vaccinations
  • general nursing duties e.g Dressings, removal of clips and sutures
  • Ensure the cold chain is maintained upon the delivery of vaccinations
  • Ensure that the drug refrigerators are at the correct temperature on a daily basis and document that all drugs are within the expiry dates
  • Record all patient contacts in the clinical system EMIS
  • Ensure that infection control procedures are followed in line with protocols
  • Ensure that all specimens are sent to the appropriate laboratories in a timely basis, i.e smears,urine specimens and bloods.
  • Work safely at all times and within boundaries and scope of practice
  • Attend relevant meetings as required
  • Be aware of GDPR and safeguarding
