Jubilee Park Medical Partnership are looking for a Health Care Assistant to join our friendly and dynamic team at our well-established practice, operating across two sites in Carlton and Lowdham. We are committed to providing high-quality care to our 12,300 patients and are looking for a dedicated Health Care Assistant to join our supportive team.

Main duties of the job

As a Health Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical team and enhancing patient care. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing phlebotomy (blood tests)
  • Conducting blood pressure checks
  • Assisting with wound dressings
  • Administering B12 injections
  • Supporting the nursing team with various clinical tasks
  • Providing compassionate and patient-centred care

Job description

Job responsibilities

To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. This list is not exhaustive and will be added to as progression and need arises. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload, staffing levels and training:

Undertake new patient health checks

Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately

Facilitate BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

Support the practice nurses with the management of chronic disease clinics and Long Term Condition checks

Carry out BMI checks as directed

Act as a chaperone as required

Undertake venepuncture

Administer flu and other permissible vaccinations

Ear irrigation

Carry out ECGs as requested

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Provide support during minor operations as required

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

Undertake home visits to housebound patients for dressings, bloods and other assessments as appropriate

Ordering and restocking of clinical equipment and consumables

Working at all sites that make up Jubilee Park Medical Partnership

Attending Practice Learning Time and training sessions as required

Working collaboratively on PCN tasks were deemed appropriate by the practice and directed by the management team or partners

Any other reasonable requested task

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the healthcare assistant may be requested to:

Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead

Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

Support and participate in shared learning within the practice

Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
