Job summary

Qualified Dispenser (NVQ2) 24 hrs per week hours plus cover (would consider a job share)

£11.22 per hour

We have a vacancy for a qualified dispenser qualified to NVQ 2, to work 24 hours per week over the following days:

Monday 8am to 5pm

Tuesday 9am to 5pm

Wednesday 9am to 1pm

Thursday 9 am to 1pm

You will be supported by an excellent, dedicated and cohesive team who put patients and staff at the forefront of care. We have a strong emphasis on a happy, sensible work life balance.

We need someone who is accurate with attention to detail, happy dealing with staff and patients and flexible to cover other team members leave/sickness.

There may be potential for these hours to be increased in the future.

Main duties of the job

Our dispensers provides excellent customer service to our patients. They deal with face to face and telephone queries and are supported by both our clinical team and clinical pharmacist. They have excellent communication skills and a friendly demeanour.

Dispensary deal with a high volume of prescription requests with great accuracy. They also prepare dosette boxes for our housebound patients. All dispensary staff pay close attention to detail and follow legal and safety guidelines whilst dispensing medications.

Dispensary assistants also manage the dispensary's inventory. This includes receiving and unpacking medication deliveries, verifying the contents, and ensuring proper storage conditions. They also keep track of stock levels and assist with placing orders for new supplies.

Each dispensary assistant responsible for maintaining a clean and organized workspace. They must also follow safety protocols when handling medications and ensure that the dispensary environment is safe for both staff and customers.

Our dispensary team also carry out Dispensing Review Use of Medications throughout the year .

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST

To ensure that:

The Dispensary is kept properly stocked with supplies.

All medicines are prepared and dispensed accurately.

All Dispensary equipment is kept in proper order, including the refrigerator

All drugs and medicines are kept safely.

All the legal requirements applicable to dispensing practice and medicines are properly observed.

The Dispensary is kept clean and tidy at all times.

Specific Tasks:

To dispense medicines/drugs as required by the doctors in the practice.

Not to dispense medicines to unauthorised persons, whoever they may be, without the doctor's consent.

To dispense and record private prescriptions with their payments.

To dispense repeat medicine requests and print current month prescription.

Record prescription charges on bags.

To ensure end of month submissions are endorsed correctly and sent on time to the NHSBSA.

To re-order supplies of medicines and containers.

To check emergency drugs are always in stock and in date.

To check stock balance and CD register with second Dispenser or Dispensary Manager.

Daily monitoring of fridge temperature to maintain cold chain between 2 8 degrees centigrade and monitoring of room temperature to keep below 25 degrees centigrade.

To have face to face consultations with patients for drug use and monitoring (DRUMs under the

Dispensary Services Quality Scheme).

To unpack daily drug deliveries and top up stock.

To check and file invoices.

To sort prescriptions weekly to include endorsement check and prescription charge check.

To dispense medicines into weekly dossett boxes as required.

To arrange for the distribution of medicines to patients residing in outlying villages if required.

To fully observe all legal requirements relevant to dispensing practice including the Health

Authority Regulations.

To monitor review dates and contact patients to see Nurse/Doctor as required.

Ensure that stock is not out-dated before use.

To ensure that the computer, printer and other equipment is maintained in proper order at all

times.

To ensure the most efficient use of the Dispensary.

To ensure the cleanliness of the Dispensary.

To ensure the safety and security of the Dispensary and contents.

To ensure the safety of all who enter the Dispensary.

To carry out searches for the Dispensary Manager and Doctors as requested to implement

changes and recalls.

Special requirements of the Post:

To provide cover for the Dispensers during periods of leave.

To have an ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense to respond to

patients enquiries and requests.
