Job summary

Irchester Surgery is a community-focused GP practice based on School Road in Irchester, Wellingborough. We are dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centred healthcare and supporting the ongoing health needs of our local population.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a part-time clinician who can offer 4 sessions per week on Monday's and Friday's. This is a on-site position for a General Practitioner in Northamptonshire. The role involves delivering comprehensive primary care services, managing acute and chronic conditions, conducting patient consultations, prescribing treatments, and working closely with the wider healthcare team to ensure safe and effective patient care.

About us

Irchester Surgery has a registered patient population of approximately 4,100. The practice is supported by a small, friendly team comprising two GPs and four experienced members of the nursing team, alongside our administrative staff.

Job responsibilities

Main Duties of the Job

Clinical Duties:

  • Undertake clinic sessions: typically, 4 hours 10 minutes per session.
  • Record all patient contact accurately on the clinical system.
  • Complete referral letters in a timely manner.
  • Review laboratory results
  • Review hospital letters, and discharge summaries as needed.
  • Conduct medication reviews, manage EPS repeat prescriptions, and address medication queries along side signing repeat prescriptions.
  • Undertake home visits as required.
  • Provide telephone advice to patients as well face to face.
  • Support clinical and administrative staff with clinical queries on-site.
  • Participate in the duty doctor system within the team.

Quality and Governance:

  • Work with the surgery to maintain and improve Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) targets, Locally Commissioned Services (LCSs), Local Improvement Schemes (LIS), Directed Enhanced Services (DESs), and PCN initiatives.
  • Participate in clinical audits to meet practice needs.
  • Attend practice training, meetings, and CPD sessions as required.
  • Be encouraged to develop and use skills to improve patient care and record appropriately for appraisals and CPD.
  • Take on a lead role in a particular clinical or service area (e.g. safeguarding, PCN, diabetes, elderly care, QOF etc), providing guidance, developing protocols, and supporting colleagues in that specialty.

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with professional standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, infection control, health & safety, and data protection policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, including nurses, administrative staff, and allied health professionals.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of practice systems, processes, and patient care pathways.

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice in the UK.
  • Completion of GP training or equivalent experience.
