Job summary
As a GP Receptionist, you will be the welcoming
face and voice of our practice, providing a professional and compassionate
first point of contact for patients. You will manage appointments, handle
enquiries, support clinicians, and help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of
the practice. This is a varied and fast-paced role that requires excellent
communication skills, attention to detail, and a caring, patient-focused
approach.

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
Greet patients and visitors in a polite, professional manner. Answer calls promptly and direct enquiries appropriately. Book, amend and cancel appointments using the practice clinical system. Handle patient queries sensitively and confidentially, and assist with registration forms and general paperwork.
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate patient records, including scanning and filing medical documents. Liaise with clinicians, nurses and colleagues as required.
Operational Support
Ensure reception and waiting areas are tidy and welcoming. Follow practice procedures for confidentiality and data protection. Support administrative staff during busy periods.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong organisational skills and attention to detail; ability to work under pressure; good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and clinical systems; professional and empathetic manner.
Desirable: Experience in a GP practice or healthcare setting; knowledge of medical terminology; experience using clinical systems such as EMIS.
