The breadth of the role is set out below. Your weekly time
will be split proportionally across the Practices. The expectation is that the safeguarding
co-ordinator will concentrate on ensuring that Practices have a consistent,
safe and effective approach to safeguarding. Ensuring Practices are
safeguarding CQC compliant. Supporting the running of effective practice
safeguarding MDTs, of which key components include the gathering of
intelligence prior to meetings, taking minutes of decisions made at the meetings
and ensuring that agreed actions are taken. Another important area is the
provision of safeguarding reports to key partners, for example child services.
The safeguarding co-ordinator can support Practices in a number of ways, by
streamlining the process, thereby reducing the input needed from clinicians.
Main duties of the job
Work very closely with each Practices safeguarding lead
to ensure each practice has robust and effective safeguarding procedures that
ensures all patients at risk are kept as safe as possible
Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are up to
date and consistent with agreed best practice
Maintain staff safeguarding training records and organise
appropriate role-based training for members of staff, leading the training
where appropriate.
Manage processing of safeguarding tasks and processing of
safeguarding correspondence onto patient records. Support the preparation of
timely, relevant and proportionate safeguarding reports.
Support the practices in achieving CQC compliance with
respect to the safeguarding of staff and patients.
Organising and leading regular practice safeguarding
meetings. Ensure that the practices have a vulnerable patient register which is
kept up to date.76. Help the practices foster effective relationships with
local safeguarding partners. Ensure the timely sharing of relevant information,
when safeguarding concerns arise in respect of both children and adults.
Support the practices in responding to statutory requests
for information required by the local authority to carry out local child or
adult safeguarding case reviews and assist the practices with section 42
enquiries. Disseminate learning and support the implementation of review
recommendations.
Promote the understanding of local safeguarding referral
pathways.
