Job summary

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is an autonomous and highly skilled clinician who plays a vital role within the multidisciplinary healthcare team. Working both independently and collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, the ANP provides high-quality, patient-centred care while demonstrating advanced clinical expertise and sound professional judgement.

In this role, the practitioner will utilise advanced assessment, diagnostic, and clinical decision-making skills to manage patients presenting with minor illnesses as well as ongoing medical and nursing needs. The post holder will be an experienced and compassionate nurse who is able to apply critical thinking, deliver safe and effective treatment, and evaluate patient outcomes while working within their professional scope of practice.

The successful candidate will contribute to improving patient access to care, delivering timely assessments, treatment, and advice, while supporting the overall effectiveness of the clinical team and maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and quality care.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver advanced clinical nursing care using expert clinical skills, sound judgement and evidence-based practice to ensure safe and effective patient care. Assess, triage, diagnose and treat patients presenting with minor illness and ongoing medical needs through face-to-face consultations. Conduct comprehensive clinical examinations considering both physiological and psychological aspects of patient health. Request and interpret diagnostic tests in line with agreed protocols and develop appropriate care plans, referring patients to primary or secondary care services when required. Provide clear explanations and health advice regarding conditions and treatment plans. Prescribe and review medications as an independent prescriber in accordance with national guidelines and practice protocols. Maintain safe clinical practice within professional competencies and undertake further training where required. Ensure patient confidentiality, dignity and respect at all times.

    Deliver compassionate, high-quality care that promotes health, self-care and independence using a holistic approach. Contribute to achieving healthcare targets and quality standards, manage urgent appointments, maintain accurate patient records, collect clinical specimens according to protocols, support staff training and development, promote safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults, and maintain a safe and professional working environment while complying with data protection regulations.
