Job summary

A HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT - NVQ Level 3 or 4 required for a practice in Maghull. This is a part time post, AFC terms and conditions, pay depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

Your role

You will be part of the nursing team providing high quality and forward-thinking care to meet the holistic health care needs of our practice population. Will undertake agreed procedures including

  • NHS health checks
  • New patient health checks
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, peak flow, and record findings accurately
  • Flu, pneumonia, B12 and shingles vaccination
  • Phlebotomy
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording
  • Order and maintain stock of medical supplies
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned, stock checked and monitored routinely in accordance with extant guidance
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Provide support during minor operations

GP experience preferred

Job responsibilities

Undertake NHS health checks, IGR and CVD checks Undertake new patient health checks Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, peak flow and record findings accurately Carry out BMI checks as directed Act as a chaperone as required Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation Provide support during minor operations Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session. Order and maintain stock of medical supplies Ensure fridges are cleaned, stock checked and monitored routinely in accordance with extant guidance Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy Flu, pneumonia, B12 and shingles vaccination Phlebotomy Blood pressures/ 24 hr blood pressure monitoring Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics Chaperoning duties Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate General administration record and document accurately all patient contact within notes Assist in auditing and evaluation within practice Monitoring emergency stock each week and report back to principal nurse. Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations Responsible for annual calibration and upkeep of medical equipment such 24 hr bp monitors, spirometer, scales and Bp monitors. End of year drug stock check Ensure health promotion materials are available within practice and replenish stock when needed

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
  • Experience of working directly in a healthcare assistant role, adult health and social care, learning support or public health/health improvement.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a team or on own initiative
  • Computer skills

Desirable

  • Phlebotomy accredited
  • Immunisation and Vaccination accredited
