Job summary

A great role for a reliable, highly motivated and enthusiastic person to undertake caretaking & maintenance duties for Anchor Healthcare Centre.

Main duties of the job

To work with the Leadership Team, to provide a timely and responsive service for the implementation and maintenance of all Facilities & Building, Health & Safety, Fire Safety and Building Security needs.

The role also includes areas such as Waste Management, Plant Room, Facilities Management and Grounds Management. Our practice is situated in a green building with a Ground Source Heating/Cooling System, Rainwater Harvesting and Solar Panels so knowledge of these is helpful but training is given.

Daily oversight of the surgery premises, ensuring fire exits etc are kept clear and safe, deliveries are stored away as appropriate and all building systems are in good working order is an essential element of the job.

Being available out of hours is a vital part of the role responding to alarms (security / fire etc) whenever necessary is an integral part of the role.

We are a large, friendly 19,000 patient practice on the south coast, 15 mins from Brighton.

We have a team of 18 GPs (Partners and Salaried), 15 Nurses and HCA's, an administration team, reception team and Pharmacy team.

We are environmentally friendly and have a modern low carbon emission building with Ground Source Heat Pump and Solar Panels. We have a shower and are looking to install a bike shed.

JOB SPECIFICATION

  • To ensure that the Practice buildings, facilities and grounds are maintained to the highest possible standard, are in a proper working order ensuring compliance with relevant Health, Safety & Welfare legislation ensuring to provide a safe working environment for all Staff, Patients and Practice Visitors.
  • Delegated responsibility from the Practice Leadership Team, in relation to all aspects of building maintenance and security
  • In Liaison with the Practice Leadership Team, plan and direct the work of site maintenance - To direct contractors to specified work and to monitor their progress and quality of work undertaken, reporting on the standard and completion of all work
  • To seek quotes/estimates/tenders from recognised contractors for all repairs and development work in order to meet the standards set out by the Practice Partners
  • To liaise with the external cleaning contractor to ensure the premises are prepared and cleaned for daily Practice use, including after Practice events.
  • Help ensure that adequate fire prevention and security systems are in place - maintain the security of the premises, keys, fobs, computers, other equipment and property. Ensure team members are trained as appropriate
  • To have lead responsibility for the security of the premises at all times and to maintain a protocol to support out of hours contact arrangements including operation of fire and burglar alarms
  • Setting up of a system for out of ours call outs establishing a staff rota for call outs and training staff appropriately
  • To operate and manage the Practices CCTV system, preparing digital recordings (when necessary) when requested by police
  • Maintain an up to date library of plans, servicing schedules and other data relating to the sites and their infrastructure

Working closely with the Leadership Team to:

  • Undertake small repairs and maintenance of the building, fabric, fixtures & fittings - calling in skilled maintenance staff for larger/complex repairs
  • Assist in minor works with other trades as required
  • Oversee plant room equipment, maintenance and repairs
  • Moving / installing furniture, equipment and fixtures & fittings as needed
  • Ensure regulatory checks & maintenance needs are met within specified timelines
  • Take regular meter readings and keep records
  • Management of the building waste ensuring collections are carried out
  • Security supervision of staff, visitors, secure areas, alarm system, key company
  • Supervise car park areas & grounds including sweeping and gritting
  • Take on the role of building Fire Officer & liaise with the Fire Contractors
  • Oversee the Deliveries Protocol - Ensure all building deliveries are delivered to the intended recipient, storing away clinical stock as appropriate and under the direction of the Clinical Stocking Lead
