Job summary

Hazeldene Medical Centre is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Receptionist to join our friendly and well-established reception team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced GP receptionist or primary care administrator who is looking to take on additional responsibility and develop leadership skills within a supportive practice environment.

The successful candidate will continue to work as part of the reception team while supporting the Practice Manager with the day-to-day coordination of reception services, including rota management, workload planning, staff development, and supporting team appraisals.

This role combines hands-on reception and administrative duties with team coordination responsibilities, making it ideal for someone looking to progress within primary care and contribute to the ongoing development of the reception team.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Receptionist will support the smooth and efficient running of reception services while continuing to undertake core reception and administrative duties.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating reception rotas and arranging cover for sickness, annual leave, and training

  • Supporting the Practice Manager with planning staff workload and reception service delivery

  • Acting as a senior point of contact for reception staff during daily operations

  • Supporting the appraisal process for reception staff, including preparation, feedback, and identifying development needs

  • Contributing to future planning of reception services, including identifying improvements in processes and patient access

  • Providing guidance and day-to-day support to reception colleagues

  • Supporting the induction and onboarding of new reception staff

  • Handling patient enquiries at reception and over the telephone in a professional and courteous manner

  • Booking appointments and managing patient access requests

  • Processing patient registrations, clinical correspondence, and administrative tasks

  • Supporting workflow management and practice administrative processes

  • Undertaking delegated operational tasks from the Practice Manager

The Senior Receptionist will play a key role in supporting the day today running of reception services at Hazeldene Medical Centre.

Working as part of the reception team, the post holder will undertake reception and administrative duties while also providing additional coordination and leadership support to colleagues.

The role includes supporting the Practice Manager with reception rotas, staff workload planning, team appraisals, and future service planning, while ensuring the reception team continues to deliver a high standard of patient care and administrative support.
