Phlebotomist/Health Care Assistant (Clinical)

Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic phlebotomist or potential team member to join us and cover a maternity leave with a strong potential for long term employment. This role would be perfect for someone looking to make a foray into General Practice or someone who is already a phlebotomist and is looking to extend their skills in a great working environment. The Family Practice currently has over 17,500 patients making it a busy and rewarding environment whilst being part of a large but close-knit team. We are ideally looking for someone who has experience however we are prepared to train the right person. We are located close to the centre of Bristol, within walking distance from the centre and Whiteladies Road and easily accessible by bus and train. We also have on-site parking.

The successful candidate will be working 3-4 days a week preferably and the occasional Saturday for which plenty of notice will be given.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities:

To work alongside the clinicians in the provision of patient care, and in accordance with the practice protocols & procedures. Having received appropriate training and their competency verified, the post holder will undertake the following tasks, referring to the treatment room Nurses, Nurse Manager and GPs as necessary.

Carrying out venepuncture as requested on ICE by the GP, nurse or secondary care.

Recording routine and emergency ECGs as requested by a GP

Measurements of height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, blood sugar, oxygen saturations, recording the results in the Patients notes and being aware of normal ranges and when to alert a GP or Nurse of unusual results

Carrying out annual mental health physical checks and bloods using the appropriate template & liaising with GP/Nurse about booking their review.

Explaining and attaching 24hr blood pressure machines as requested by a GP/Nurse

Act as a chaperone for GP/Nurse when needed

Assist clinicians in emergency management of patients as and when instructed

Provide relevant health promotion literature to patient

Be aware of and follow the infection control policy

Work effectively as part of a team

About us

The Family Practice has a close knit team belonging to HealthWest PCN. We are located centrally and are easy to get to. We have a car park for those who drive and there is a discreet area for staff members to park their bikes who wish to cycle to work. Additionally we have lovely gardens to sit out in during the summer.

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and within the professional competence of the post holder, the Health Care Assistant will work alongside other clinical staff and provide services to patients registered with the Practice. Assist in the smooth running of the treatment room, coil clinics and undertake allocated tasks, working within set protocols.
