GPA - Full-time, fixed-term contract for 2 years
The GPA is an exciting new role to General Practice. Boroughbury Medical Centre has a well-established team of GPAs and currently has a vacancy for an additional full-time GPA on a fixed-term 2 year contract.
GPAs have both a clinical and an administrative role within the surgery, undertaking clinics for blood tests, ECGs, blood pressures, urinalysis and health checks. In addition, they have administrative functions including coding and filing of letters.
Main duties of the job
The GP Assistant role was initially developed in the United States, to safely deliver a combination of routine administrative tasks and some basic clinical duties in the general practice setting.The focus being on supporting General Practitioners in their day-to-day management of patients, specifically aimed at reducing the administrative burden, making best use of consultation time and supporting those particularly vulnerable to isolation who are regular attenders at the practice.

Qualifications
Essential
- Ideally a recognised certificate as a GP Assistant or Healthcare Assistant with qualifications and competency in phlebotomy/venepuncture
- Experience of working in General Practice or other Primary Care setting
- Ideally qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care
- Ideally GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
Desirable
- Ideally qualified and competent in phlebotomy, ECGs, blood pressures and urinalysis
