Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, aspiring and caring GP to join us from March 2025.

We are a committed and supportive practice and positively encourage development of additional skills and personal development. We strive to maintain a good work life balance, by offering a variety of work including teaching, training, triage sessions and nursing home ward rounds. We have capped our 15minute appointments in line with BMA recommendations. We have a daily team huddle over coffee and offer free lunch daily.

3 sessions a week (to include pro rata share of extended hours surgery) - opportunities to pick up additional ad hoc locum sessions if interested.

Annual leave is 6 weeks plus pro rata share of bank holidays.

Traditional doctor patient relationship. Continuity of care is positively encouraged with fair share of admin.

Well organised multidisciplinary team with Early Home Visiting service, prescription and medication team and workflow/admin support to help minimise workload.

Well-being practice with full complement of allied health professionals to support delivery of care to patients.

Mentorship from senior GPs

Cross site work between The Chocolate Quarter, Temple House site (St Clements road) and Saltford

Opportunity to become involved in teaching and practice development.

Easy commute from Bath, Bristol and surrounding areas

Informal Visits welcome.

Main duties of the job

To carry out the duties as outlined and be proactive in continuously improving service delivery. To work in a professional manner with a client focus, ensuring that respect and courtesy is shown to patients, colleagues, other service providers and all those in contact with the organisation. Our staff are expected to be flexible to work at any of our sites and in patients place of residence when clinically necessary.

About us

St Augustines Surgery is a friendly, well organised, teaching practice with 20,000 patients. We have 5 partners, 13 salaried GPs, 4 GP trainees, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and an excellent nursing and administrative team. We have pharmacists, first contacts physios and paramedics within our PCN (Keynsham).

We are based in Block C of The Chocolate Factory, Keynsham in a large, purpose-built surgery adjacent to a local cafe, care home and sporting facilities. We also have sites in Saltford and in St Clements road, Keynsham which are cross covered by all staff.

To undertake duties governed by the contract and Objectives of Direct and Local Enhanced

Services including:

Face to face and telephone consultations

Patient Home visits and Nursing Home visits

Checking and signing repeat prescriptions

Administration - dealing with queries, patient test results, referral letters NHS and private, task, emails and other paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner

Cover all the clinical management of the patients in surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results, making referrals to secondary care or to other providers as appropriate

Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols as well wider guidance such as that from NICE

  • Ability to listen and empathise whilst being honest and caring
  • Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure with and understanding of the audit process

  • Experience of working in urgent care and, or a primary care environment
  • Experience of dealing with a range of clinical conditions
  • Experience of providing home visits
  • Proven ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of own clinical practice.
  • Understanding of evidence-based practice.
  • Evidence of working autonomously, with some support and supervision

Desirable

  • Experience in Triage
  • Knowledge of Quality and Outcomes Framework.
  • Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
