Practice Business and Development Manager

Job summary

We are looking for a highly accomplished senior manager with experience of strategic business and change management, who can steer us through a period of rapid change and develop our services in an area that is undergoing extensive redevelopment and regeneration.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in leading and developing our services. Our senior manager is responsible for organisational leadership, service improvement and delivery of targets and identifying and developing opportunities to support future growth.

Main duties of the job

The role is supported by two Site Managers, who cover the areas of HR, compliance, complaints, estates/premises management, along with a Finance Administrator and an IT lead. The new manager will oversee all areas of practice functionality.

The postholder will work closely with the partners, on a day-to-day basis, and need to offer advice and guidance to them.

The successful candidate will have experience of managing budgets and understand the direction of the NHS and primary care. They will have systematic approach to problem solving and planning and a strategic outlook. They will be professional and positive with a background in business and people management, and will demonstrate success in leadership, financial planning and strategic management.

Our fast-growing list size is currently 14,500 and will continue to increase significantly within the next few years.

We have four partners and are supported by experienced clinical and non-clinical teams.

Job responsibilities

Work with the management team and partners to oversee the general management of the practice, ensuring that staff achieve their primary responsibilities.

Oversee the HR functions, including recruitment, relevant checks, contractual issues, appraisals and staff performance.

Workforce planning, ensuring a skill mix and staff have the appropriate level of training to enable them to carry out their individual roles and responsibilities effectively.

Ensure employment law and legislation is adhered to.

Liaise with the Primary Care Network (PCN) and locality commissioners, attend meetings and promote collaborative working.

Provide support and advice to the partnership.

Lead and coordinate projects within the practice.

Keep up to date with developments and changes within primary care.

Financial accountability, including managing budgets, forecasting and advising partners on financial matters.

Oversee the financial systems and bookkeeping, ensuring accurate accounting, including end of year processes with the accountant.

Oversee the preparation of the monthly payroll, ensuring accurate reporting and submissions.

Ensure the practice explores all opportunities to maximise income and reduce expenditure in collaboration with the partners.

Oversee QOF and commissioned services to ensure targets are met.

Oversee the significant event and complaints processes, in line with current legislation and guidance.

Oversee contracts and maintenance for services and equipment.

Oversee the review and update of all practice policies and procedures.

Oversee the management of the practice IT system, including compliance with IG/Data Security Protection (DSPT).

Coordinate the practice development plan and business continuity plan.

Produce business cases for new services, as required.

Working together with the partners and management team, ensure on-going CQC compliance.

Ensure the practice maintains compliance with its NHSE contractual obligations.

Provide advice and support to the staff to ensure effective team working.

Facilitate partners and practice meetings and ensure an up to date action plan.
