Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward thinking Practice Research Nurse to support the delivery of high quality primary care research, working 16 - 20 hours per week across all The Ridings' sites.

In this varied and rewarding post, you will manage your own caseload while working as part of a friendly, multi disciplinary team committed to innovation in general practice. Youll also work closely with internal and external partners, help maintain the quality and performance of our research portfolio, and access ongoing development opportunities and mandatory training to support your growth in the role. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated nurse who wants to help shape the future of primary care through research.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the Research Clinical Lead and Research Coordinator, you will play a key role in identifying eligible patients, supporting them through their research journey, and ensuring our studies are delivered to the highest clinical and regulatory standards. The role involves a mix of patient facing clinical work and essential study administration, including data collection, sample handling, physical assessments, and maintaining accurate Case Report Forms. You will use your clinical knowledge and SystmOne expertise to identify patients, carry out protocol driven procedures, and contribute to a positive, safe, and supportive environment for research participants.

CLINCAL AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Working autonomously to assist in the management of a caseload of research study patients.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary research team.

Maintain effective communication with patients, carers and professionals to ensure high quality service delivery.

Manage and oversee a portfolio of research studies in various disease areas.

Training and assessing other members of the research team as competent in line with the research protocols of each study.

Identifying suitable patients for entry into studies by system searches audits and note reviews. Facilitate recruitment into several research studies ensuring all study timelines are met.

Use relevant clinical knowledge to identify patients suitable for clinical research using inclusion and exclusion criteria and utilising NHS records

Act as a resource and role model for all aspects of research clinical practice to optimise patient care and clinical practice

Carry out physical examinations, taking blood/urine samples and processing according to protocol.

Perform investigations and diagnostic procedures requested by health professionals within the healthcare team or as outlined in agreed protocols.

Ensure the environment is suitable for patient care and research processes, recognising the importance of privacy, dignity and diversity.

Responsible for the care of research participants within the relevant sphere of practice and use opportunities to provide health promotion and patient education.

Maintain accurate patient data, complete Case Record Forms, including the use of electronic data capture systems and ensure relevant information is recorded in patients medical notes. To ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for audit, research, regular or ad hoc reports.

Work only in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and within the Scope of Professional Practice.

Utilise Information Governance guidance for the handling of sensitive patient data.

Provide ongoing information, education and support to patients (and their significant others) regarding clinical trials and specific research treatments and procedures.

Participate in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training, keeping up to date with any changes in legislation or practice. Ensure that Blue Stream and all mandatory training is up to date.

OTHER DUTIES

Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplines within the practice, ensuring that patient confidentiality is not breached.

Maintain continuous education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed necessary for professional development.

Co-operate with the annual appraisal carried out by the Clinical Research Lead

Ensure awareness of responsibilities in relation to health and safety.

Ensure awareness of responsibilities in relation to infection control policies within the Practice,

Use of computer system when necessary and in accordance with Practice policy.

Any other duties as shall reasonably be required.
