Main duties of the job

The Practice Nurse Manager will be the lead nurse within the organisation with the following tasks:

  • to develop, implement and manage evidence based nursing targeted to the needs of the practice population
  • to provide clinical leadership, support and motivation to the nursing team
  • to ensure maintenance and testing of equipment and advise on new purchases
  • to deal with Human Resources matters for the nursing team, including appraisal, performance reviews, annual leave, recruitment, induction, disciplinary matters and training needs of staff within the nursing team.
  • to supervise, mentor and support the professional development of staff within the nursing team.
  • to participate in clinical supervision
  • to develop and implement nursing policies and procedures
  • to ensure compliance with CQC standards and other regulatory requirements
  • to participate in audits and quality improvement projects
  • to ensure clinical members of team are appropriately registered and revalidated
  • to manage staff rotas ensuring appropriate levels of staffing to meet demand
  • to ensure efficient and effective use of resources and budgetary control
  • to chair the monthly Nurses Meeting
  • to attend weekly Management Team Meetings
  • to attend appropriate nursing forums

Chronic Disease Management, including the following diseases:

  1. Diabetes
  2. Respiratory Diseases, including Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
  3. Chronic Heart Disease
  4. Hypertension
  5. Stroke

Tasks

1. Identification of Chronic Disease Patients

2. Taking a full medical, family and lifestyle history

3. Risk Assessments relating to the above conditions

4. Advice on clinical management, self-management and health promotion

5. Liaison with other agencies as required

VACCINATIONS AND INJECTIONS

1. Flu vaccination clinics/any other vaccination clinics as deemed appropriate during flu vaccination season.

ADMINISTRATIVE AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

1. To comply with the NMC Code Of Professional Conduct and ensuring registration

2. To comply with the Policies and Procedures for the storage, control and administration of medicines and controlled drugs.

3. To work within the Patient Group or Specific Directives

4. Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice Team ensuring that the relevant claim forms are submitted in a timely manner to facilitate claims for payment

5. Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded on the clinical record on the computer (or on paper records as necessary).

6. Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care, and registration with the Practice, including relevant clinic lists and call/recall systems.

7. Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and

ad hoc reports or for identifying target group patients.

8. Attend and participate in Practice Meetings as required

9. Assist in the formulation of Practice philosophy, strategy and policy.

10. To be responsible for the safe use and security of all Practice equipment used in the treatment/consulting rooms and reporting any defects to the Practice Manager
