Job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and patient focused individual to join our friendly and supportive treatment room team.

15 hours per week. Monday, Thursday and Friday preferably 8.30am - 1.30pm but we can be flexible around school hours if required.

This post is only advertised on NHS jobs and due to the nature of the role we are unable to accept applications from candidates requiring a Visa.

Interview date is scheduled for the morning of Thursday 27th February 2025.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for drawing blood, tagging each sample and working closely with the lab to make sure accurate samples are delivered for each patient. Our ideal candidate will deliver excellent patient service, answer patient questions, act as a resource for patient information and strengthen the relationship between the patient and the Practice

We are based in a leafy, suburban area of North-West Bristol; conveniently close to the M5 motorway and an easy and pleasant drive from central Bristol. We enjoy the benefits of a bright, modern, purpose-built Health Centre.

    Our 11,200 patients are looked after by 6 clinical Partners, 6 salaried GPs and an ANPs, with support from our experienced Treatment Room, Administration and Patient Services teams.

    We are a hard-working and close-knit bunch, with an emphasis on humour and peer support to meet the current challenges in primary care. We enjoy entertaining staff nights out and there is always plenty of chat and information flow on our WhatsApp groups.

    Job description

    Job responsibilities

    Main Duties:

    Clinical Responsibilities:

    • Collect and tag specimens exactly as outlined in each medical requisition
    • Hold and develop effective collection techniques as they relate to groups such as pediatric and geriatric patients
    • Accurately package each specimen and ensure that every specimen is delivered to the laboratory on time
    • Maintain an organised and clean work area based on health and safety laws and the guidelines of our medical organisation
    • Answer patient questions regarding collection techniques and offer additional resources on the collection process if a patient requests them
    • Assist in the monitoring and observation of patients.
    • Report any changes in patients condition to the Nurse in charge.
    • Undertake training for competencies as required for the developing role of the Phlebotomist.

    Responsibilities within the Nursing Team:

    • Make the most effective and economical use of all supplies and equipment.
    • Work flexibly with the team in the planning of rotas to enable adequate staff cover during periods of annual leave, sickness absence and training.
    • Maintain accurate, confidential and contemporaneous records of care.
    • Attend and participate in relevant staff meetings and communicate effectively any relevant information within the team.
    • Use information technology for updating patient records and retrieving audit information as directed.
    • Ordering and maintenance of clinical supplies and equipment
    • Maintain GP rooms in respect of clinical supplies and basic cleanliness of clinical areas/equipment.
    • Ensure cleanliness of clinical areas in treatment room, maintaining adequate stock levels and basic medical equipment in good working order.
    • Undertake clerical tasks in support of the Nursing Team.

    Professional Responsibilities:

    • To keep abreast of developments in nursing care as appropriate.
    • To abide by the Practice policies and protocols.
    • To be aware of all aspects of Health & Safety issues, for example, Fire and Emergency procedures, COSHH, Manual Handling procedures, disposal of clinical waste and infection control. This list is not exhaustive.
    • To record and report all accidents and take appropriate action.
    • To be aware and adhere to local child protection procedure and facilitate effective communication with the PHCT via a senior colleague.
