Job summary

Kingswood Health Centre is a team-orientated practice with approximately 13,100 patients on our list. Operated by 7 GP Partners and a Managing Partner, we also have a multidisciplinary team of salaried GPs, Paramedics, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacy team and First Contact Physio. Our amazing Nursing Team consists of 6 trained practice nurses, and currently 3 healthcare assistants. We are a caring supportive team, working to a very high standard of care. The Nursing Team is lead by our Senior Nurse, Rachel Simpson. Many of our staff have worked at Kingswood Health Centre for many years, and we are always ready to encourage new staff and their progression within their roles.

We are looking to employ a new HCA to join us, working 15 hours. The hours and days are negotiable but need to include a Monday.Generally, shift patterns are the same for each staff member on a weekly basis, with some flexibility if needed.

Main duties of the job

The healthcare assistant is a member of the team appointed to support the other surgery clinicians in the delivery of patient care. The role involves contact on a physical and psychological level with patients and their families. The post holder will undertake a range of activities under the supervision of a registered nurse, having been assessed and deemed competent in the activities required.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Support the registered nurses in implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received.
  • Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of patients
  • Contribute to a team-based approach to patient-centred care in conjunction with members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Keep contemporaneous patient records of all activity using the EMIS system.
  • Participate in team/surgery meetings for effective communication.
  • Undertake tasks/procedures, in which competency has been assessed and recorded (venepuncture, ECGs, blood pressures, height/weight measurements, diabetic foot checks, etc.)
  • Participate in research activities as and when required.
  • All team members are responsible for behaving in a manner that does not put themselves, patients and other team members in danger or at risk in the clinical environment.
  • To assist in the maintenance of stock levels for the practice, including in all consulting rooms
  • To assist in the maintenance of cleanliness/tidiness and always adhere to infection control policy and procedures.
  • Conduct annual health checks(hypertension, diabetes), NHS health checks, and any other surgery services that you are requested and deemed competent to.
  • Support allied health care professionals in coil clinics and minor surgery clinics
