Job summary

We are looking for a Band 6 Nurse Practitioner / Specialist Paramedic to join our MIU Team. The role is for 37.5 hours per week. Experience in either a hospital or general practice setting would be advantageous to your application.

Main duties of the job

To provide support, care, treatment and advice to individuals presenting to the MIU, both in and out of hours, working within the agreed guidelines and protocols. Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior trained staff, support workers and students.

About us

We are pleased to announce an exciting role has become available within our Minor Injury Unit. Although managed by Claremont Medical Practice, Exmouth MIU is a nurse-led service based in Exmouth Community Hospital providing assessment and treatment to all the local population and holiday makers alike. Exmouth MIU is a dynamic service responding to the needs of all the patients over 2 years of age. The unit is open 8am- 8pm daily and is staffed by a friendly and fun team made up of Registered Nurses, paramedics and Senior HCAs.

Main Responsibilities 1.To work within a multi-professional team, keeping the patient at the centre of care and ensuring full participation in decision making. 2.Ensuring the right care is delivered and acute Trust referral and admission is avoided where possible. 3.Assist the Band 7/Team Lead in meeting national operational and quality standards. 4.Provide effective patient focused care reflecting the philosophy of the service across the Primary Care Trust (PCT) 5.To provide autonomous, evidence-based advice, treatment and care needs, including health education, for patients attending the MIU with undifferentiated and undiagnosed healthcare problems. Patient Care 1.Working with autonomous practitioner applying clinical reasoning to provide evidence based treatment, advice and care, in the nurse-led minor injuries unit. 2.Ensure own clinical credibility through professional accountability and maintenance of clinical skills. 3.To ensure own knowledge is up to date in light of current research and practice 4.To deliver clinical care for patients with complex needs. 5.To display a sound understanding of consent and capacity ensuring consent is granted for any treatment undertaken and best interests are considered as necessary. 6.To work within the guidelines and patient group directions provided. 7.Ensure effective communication of complex, sensitive patient information, between hospitals, community professionals, patient carers, promoting collaborative working; this will include overcoming communication difficulties. 8.To have sound knowledge of infection control, to reduce risk of health care acquired infections. 9.Receive patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed healthcare problems. 10.Initiating and interpreting investigations where appropriate. 11.Refer patients to specialist units/departments/clinics internally/externally as required. 12.Follow child protection procedures in the detection of prevention of child abuse, working in accordance with child protection policy. 13.Act ethically to meet the required needs of patients, promoting equality and diversity. 14.Ensure contemporaneous and comprehensive documentation, which reflects assessment and care provided. 15.Prioritise patients to ensure a safe and effective service is provided in a timely manner. 16.Ensure the thoughts and rights of the patients are considered in planning their care. 17.Administer medicines according to the patient group directions and within Trust policy. 18.Recognise the acutely ill patient and the need for urgent/emergency referral and transfer to acute unit. 19.Liaise with other members of the healthcare team in providing the effective and safe care of patient and carers. 20.Recognise and report on any adult or child safeguarding concerns as needed.
